Rapper Cardi B will be the face of one of Pepsi’s famous ad campaigns this year, it was recently announced. One of the commercials that has already been shot with her will air during Super Bowl 53.

The trend of celebrities featuring in Pepsi commercials during Super Bowls has been a historic one, what with millions of people tuning in to watch the big game over the weekend, with iconic personalities like Michael Jackson, Beyoncé and Britney Spears creating some of the most memorable campaigns. After Cardi B dons the red, white and blue for the company, she will be joining the league of celebrities which also include Pink, One Direction, Madonna, Mariah Carey and The Spice Girls, TMZ reported.

Although there was initial buzz that Cardi B was being roped in to perform on stage during the Super Bowl along with Bruno Mars, the negotiations fell through. She will, however, do a show with Bruno Mars in the days leading up to the big game, which is set to premiere on Feb. 3. No details about the show were immediately available.

Cardi B made headlines days ago after she released a profanity-filled Instagram video dissing President Donald Trump for the ongoing partial government shutdown — the longest in the history of United States, and for ordering federal employees to come back to work without a paycheck.

"I just wanted to remind you, because it’s been a little bit over three weeks," Cardi B said. "Our country is a hellhole right now...I feel like we need to take some action."

In the same video, the rapper went on to compare the present scenario with the 17-day shutdown brought about by former President Barack Obama for wider access to affordable healthcare. “So your grandma could check her blood pressure and you b-----s could go check your p---y in the gynecologist with no m-----------g problem,” she pointed out.

She posted the video Wednesday night and by Thursday morning it gathered over nine million views. Cardi B, who did not expect the video to go viral, was surprised to find she was trending on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Democratic politicians like Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy, Hawaii Sen. Brian Schatz and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer debated on social media whether they should retweet Cardi B’s video or not.

In a 2018 interview with GQ magazine, the rapper said she was always interested in U.S. politics and world leaders. “Me, I’m always watching the news,” she said. “I’m always looking at it on my phone. I hate when you talk about something that’s going on in the community, people think, because you’re famous, you doing it for clout. But you concerned about it because you are a citizen of America; you are a citizen of the world. If I want to get cool points, I could take a picture with a thong and my a-- and y’all gonna give me the same amount of likes. I’m gonna trend even bigger.”
