'Agent Carter' Season 1 Spoilers: 4 Things We Learned From The Premiere Synopsis For The New Marvel TV Show
"Marvel’s Agent Carter” still doesn’t have a premiere date, but it does have a synopsis. Marvel released the official synopsis for ABC’s midseason drama, and it looks like Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) kept Agent Carter very busy. “Captain America” fans know plenty about Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), but they don’t know exactly what happened after Steve Rogers/Captain America was frozen. Luckily, the synopsis gave us plenty of hints about what to expect.
1. Howard Stark Is In Trouble
As previously reported, Cooper will return to the role of Stark on the small screen. It seems Stark isn’t just sending Peggy on any mission, though. He needs her to save him. Stark “finds himself being framed for unleashing his deadliest weapons to anyone willing to pony up the cash,” according to the synopsis. The “only person he can trust” to save him and dispose of the weapons is Peggy. Her schedule is pretty clear since the SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve) won’t let her do anything besides paperwork.
2. “Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Connections
“Marvel’s Agent Carter” will take the place of “Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” when it goes on winter hiatus, but that’s not the only connection. Peggy appeared in the Season 2 premiere, and SSR logos have been popping up in the background of the modern series. It looks like the shows will keep making connections, despite a 60-year time difference. The synopsis jumps right into the connection between the two ABC shows.
“Years before Agent Coulson and his S.H.I.E.L.D. team swore to protect those who cannot protect themselves from threats they cannot conceive, there was Agent Peggy Carter,” the synopsis starts. The series will likely show viewers how Agent Carter starts S.H.I.E.L.D.
3. Jarvis Is A Major Player
Edwin Jarvis (James D’Arcy) is Stark’s butler, but he isn’t just answering the door. As previously reported, he’ll be a sort of bodyguard for Carter — but she’ll show him that she can take care of herself. It seems Jarvis will be the uncomfortable one. The butler likes routines and knowing what to expect, so following Carter will be a challenge. Jarvis will “have to make some major life changes if he’s going to be able to keep up with Peggy,” the synopsis teases.
4. Don’t Trust Anyone
Everything isn’t black and white in Agent Carter’s world, and she won’t be pledging blind allegiance to anyone. While she will be working for the SSR and Stark, she might have trouble trusting both of them. Peggy “may find that those she works for are not who they seem, and she might even begin to question whether Stark is as innocent as he claims,” the synopsis says. There are plenty of evil forces to work for in the Marvel cinematic universe, but Hydra stems from Agent Carter’s era. Could the SSR have been infiltrated?
“Marvel’s Agent Carter” will premiere midseason on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on ABC after “Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” goes on winter hiatus. Do you think Hydra will show up in the new series? Sound off in the comments section below!
