'Agents Of SHIELD' Season 2 Spoilers: Did Skye Control Her Powers? Episode 15 Recap
The two S.H.I.E.L.D.s finally met on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2, episode 15, and it was quite a throw down. Coulson (Clark Gregg) discovered that Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki) and Mack (Henry Simmons) were working against him, and they weren’t just after information — they were going after Skye (Chloe Bennet).
The episode kicked off with a flashback to the day S.H.I.E.L.D. fell. Hydra operatives held Mack and other S.H.I.E.L.D. agents hostage. They were looking for Mack to get information about the aircraft carrier they were on. Mack was about to give them everything, but Bobbi and Isabelle (Lucy Lawless) came in and killed all the bad guys.
“Fury left us orders,” Isabelle said.
“To do what?” Mack asked.
“To save S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Bobbi explained.
Back at the present day S.H.I.E.L.D., Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) and Skye had a conversation via webcam. Simmons really wanted Skye to try those gloves on because they could help her not harm herself when her powers were used. Simmons reminded the Inhuman that she only wanted to keep her safe.
Meanwhile, Coulson confronted Mack about his loyalties, but he didn’t realize that Bobbi was the one about to cause major trouble. She was breaking into his office to steal Fury’s toolbox. Mack wouldn’t give up any information, and Coulson had about a dozen men pointing guns at him within a second. He asked if Hunter (Nick Blood) was involved in whatever he was doing, and suddenly Coulson realized his accomplice was Bobbi.
May (Ming-Na Wen) found Bobbi stealing the toolbox in Coulson’s office. Bobbi tried to say that she was working for the real S.H.I.E.L.D., but May wasn’t buying it. She started shooting her gun and Bobbi back flipped out Coulson’s window into the hallway. After an intense fight, Bobbi set off some sort of electromagnetic pulse that turned out the lights for a moment -- just long enough to get away.
In another flashback, Bobbi, Isabelle and Mack searched for Commander Gonzales (Edward James Olmos). Gonzales wanted to kill them, but they promised they weren’t Hydra. They said they were there under Fury’s orders and recited code AST A06. That seemed to calm down the commander.
In the present day, Bobbi revealed in a conversation with Gonzales that she was looking for Skye’s location. In Skye’s cabin, she finally put Simmons’ gloves on. She immediately felt different. She tried to call headquarters, but she couldn’t connect.
She did some exploring around Fury’s old cabin and found that the wooden paneling on the walls pulled out to reveal the paneling that’s typical in a S.H.I.E.L.D. building, but a huge fist-shaped dent was in the middle. The Hulk is really the only person who could have a fist that size. Skye started to get creeped out and felt like someone was watching her. She opened the door and no one was there, but a minute later there was a knock. Gordon (Jamie Harris) revealed himself and asked to come inside.
Gordon said he could see that Skye was afraid of him, despite his eyes being nonexistent. He claimed that he was a friend. “I had years to prepare, and still, I was horrified by what I became,” he said.
He explained that he had a mentor when he received powers and said the first thing that happened after he went through terrigenesis was a hug from his mentor. He didn’t mention that his mentor was Skye’s mother. He asked Skye what S.H.I.E.L.D. did to her, but he didn't bother to wait for the answer.
Gordon said that everything gives off vibrations, and she could tap into the vibrations of anything. “I’ll take you to a place where you can be with people like us,” he offered.
He left the choice up to her. He said he’d come back when she was ready. He claimed he’d just know when she wanted him.
Back at headquarters, Bobbi found Simmons and Simmons acted relieved to see her. She asked what was next and pretended she wasn’t sure what was happening. Simmons said she needed to find a piece of technology that could help them deal with the electromagnetic pulse. Simmons had Bobbi hold one chip, and Bobbi was trying to get her to hurry up. Once Simmons gave Bobbi a second chip, the double agent was knocked out. Simmons knew exactly what she was doing.
In another flashback, Bobbi wanted the others to make their way to a helicopter. She gave Isabelle a medallion to give Hunter. Isabelle said he’d be mad, but she took the piece of metal and left to make a path for them to get up to the helicopter. Bobbi revealed that she had to go to the server core and destroy the ship. With all the weapons on board, she wouldn’t make it out alive. However, Fury’s orders were clear. Gonzales decided that he could overrule Fury since he was in charge of the ship. They would go with her to destroy the ship.
In the present day, May realized that Bobbi wasn’t trying to get out. She was getting the other team in. Mack tried to pull Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) away from where Gonzales was coming in from, but he couldn’t move him in time. They both got knocked over when the wall behind Fitz was blown in. Mack was trying to protect him.
Bobbi filled in the team on what happened. She told them that Skye was at “the retreat.” One of the other agents said that it was a house that Bruce Banner, the Hulk, built. They said that if Coulson put her there, he thinks she’s dangerous too.
Bobbi asked to go with another agent on the mission to find Skye. May was listening from a hidden crevice, so she was able to warn Skye.
Gonzales immediately went to Coulson after sending agents after Skye. Coulson knew exactly who he was and revealed that he spent months searching for him to see if he was alive because he was a good agent. Gonzales said that he wished Coulson were the man he’d heard about a few years ago. He couldn’t trust a man that was brought back from the dead with alien blood.
The former Commander wanted to find everything Fury was hiding, any alien entities like the city under Puerto Rico. He believed that the toolbox could lead them to those things.
In the final flashback, Bobbi and Gonzales were still ready to blow up the ship, but Mack and Isabelle wanted to fight Hydra to take it back. Gonzales said it wasn’t a democracy.
“Maybe it should be,” Bobbi said.
They decided that they had to fight Hydra and managed to save the ship and all the good agents still there.
Gonzales’ present day confrontation with Coulson wasn’t over. He didn’t trust Fury’s orders. He thought the supposedly dead director was power hungry and didn’t trust his decisions.
“Fury’s secrets didn’t bring down S.H.I.E.L.D., Hydra did,” Coulson said.
Coulson claimed that Gonzales couldn’t take his team. The older man said that the agents would make their own choice. May came in and said she made her choice before taking him out with an ICER gun. She sent Coulson in a secret elevator to get out.
Back at the cabin, Skye finally controlled her powers. She manipulated the water in the sink, but nothing else. May called Skye and told her to run. As soon as the call ended, Skye’s electricity was cut off and a helicopter was flying above the cabin.
After they landed, Bobbi reminded the agents that they were only to use ICER guns because she was an agent. They apparently don’t follow orders well. One agent tried to shoot Skye, but he missed and she knocked him out. Once she was surrounded, Bobbi screamed to warn her.
Skye focused on a tree, blew it into bits and pushed down everything around her.
“Gordon, help,” Skye said.
He immediately appeared by her side. “Would you like to go home?” Gordon asked. He teleported her out before Bobbi and the others could get up.
Coulson went to Tahiti (for real this time), where he met Hunter. The mercenary signed a napkin. “You offered me a position. Consider that my contract,” Hunter said. “So, what’s the plan boss?”
