‘Agents Of SHIELD’ Season 3 Spoilers: Chloe Bennet Teases Skye’s New Identity And Leadership Role
“Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” fans know that one character has had quite an identity crisis throughout the series. Skye (Chloe Bennet) was searching for her family and finally discovered who her parents are, along with her Inhuman heritage in Season 2. It appears that Skye will be much more sure of her identity when Season 3 premieres in the fall. With that confidence comes a new name.
“She will now be called Daisy Johnson,” Bennet told Yahoo. “We like to think of it as a new chapter closing and she’s been searching for who her parents were this whole series and now she’s kind of found out all those answers and now she’d kind of moving forward.”
She elaborated on the use of her comic book character’s name (whose code name is Quake) in an interview with SpoilerTV. Bennet revealed that the name change is due to her relationship with Cal (Kyle MacLachlan). Though his memory was erased, she wanted to honor her father, who had originally named her Daisy.
“[Meeting her family] was a little crazy and it was probably a little overwhelming, but she kind of learned to have this weirdly beautiful relationship with her father,” Bennet explained. “Out of respect for him and kind of like a closing for that chapter, I think for her being called Daisy and kind of letting Skye go is symbolic.”
The new name comes with new responsibilities. Daisy is embracing being an Inhuman and Coulson (Clark Gregg) assigned her to put together a team of people with powers, the Secret Warriors. “[Coulson] will be the brains, I assume, behind the operation and I think kind of sending me out and recruiting people,” Bennet said.
Gregg added that Daisy is going to be his right hand woman in “Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 3 (and that’s not just because that’s his only human hand). “Certainly, there is nobody that Coulson trusts more than Skye at this point and setting up Secret Warriors is the number one task of this season,” he explained. “I think he would be comfortable giving her any responsibility that he would give himself.”
Daisy will need Coulson’s help when it comes to the Secret Warriors, especially since some members of the team have powers but aren’t Inhuman, like Quake. “It has some people who are Inhumans and some other people who are special,” Gregg told Bam! Smack! Pow! “I think that’ll be one of the thrusts.” Fans will have to wait until Season 3 premieres to find out which non-comic book characters will join the team.
“Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 3 premieres Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC. Do you think Daisy is a good name change or should she just stick to Skye? Sound off in the comments section below!
