Phil Coulson is officially out of this world. The “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 4 finale ended with a massive cliffhanger that revealed Coulson is on a spaceship, and we have to wonder where exactly he’ll be when Season 5 returns. Something in his window may have hinted at where he’s headed.

In the Season 4 finale, Coulson (Clark Gregg) made a deal with the devil to temporarily have Ghost Rider take over his body to defeat Aida (Mallory Jansen). He said that he wasn’t ready to tell the group about his deal yet. Instead, the team headed to a diner to get one last meal before the government came to arrest them for the attack on Talbot (Adrian Pasdar).

The men who showed up, however, didn’t seem like U.S. government. They used a device to actually freeze the agents. Suddenly, Coulson woke up on a spaceship. He didn’t seem at all surprised — indicating that he’d been there a while — and said he was going to work.

Executive producer Jed Whedon admitted that everything about that final scene on the ABC drama is important, especially the scenic view. Astute viewers will notice some blue light happening in the upper right corner of the window. “Oh, it’s a clue,” Whedon told Entertainment Weekly of the blue area. “Read into it as hard as you can. I can’t wait until you see it. Everything is a clue. We can’t say anything really about the end. It’s all meant to get you asking these questions, so at least we did our job there.”

It’s easy to associate that shade of blue with Inhumans. It seems awfully close to the blue used in the “Marvel’s Inhumans” logo. It’s a similar shade that’s used for the terrigen crystals that create Inhumans as well. Bright blue is also the color of Kree alien’s skin, the extraterrestrials who helped create Inhumans. Naturally, we have to wonder whether this means Coulson’s intergalactic vacation will take him to Attlian, connecting “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 5 to “Marvel’s Inhumans.” Of course, Whedon wouldn’t spoil if the director is actually heading for the Inhuman city.

However, when previously asked about a crossover, he wouldn’t rule out the possibility. “Without being able to say anything really about that show, it will have its own world, just as we tried to start our own world,” he told ComicBook.com last month. “Whether or not there's a crossover, we will see.”

“Inhumans” will follow the royal family of Attilan, which includes Black Bolt (Anson Mount), Medusa (Serinda Swan) and Maximus (Iwan Rheon), as a military coup forces them to flee to Hawaii. The first couple episodes will premiere in IMAX theaters before airing on TV, and their run on ABC has pushed “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” back.

“Marvel’s Inhumans” will start in late September on Fridays at 9 p.m. EDT, and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 5 will eventually return and takeover that timeslot after the eight-episode mini-series wraps up. No exact premiere date bas been announced.
