A dog bit a woman as she tried to protect a young boy from the canine. The incident took place in Swansea, Wales, on Saturday.

Police said the dog went berserk and started attacking people. The canine attacked two women before approaching the boy. That was then Becky Watkins jumped in its way.

Speaking to Wales Online on Wednesday, Watkins, a mother-of-three, said, “I had come out of my friend’s hairdressers, and was walking towards the library and I saw a dog was on the loose. I was talking with the boy and as it was coming closer I didn’t touch it but I said hello to it like I do to dogs, and it pounced on the boy. Its front paws were up and its jaws were open. My mother’s instincts just kicked in and I put my arm up to protect the boy and the dog went for my arm,” she said.

“If I didn’t have my coat on it would have ripped my arm apart. I didn’t know the boy but I got him back to the hairdressers, Crowning Glory, and I phoned the police. The police were there in a shot, and they Tasered the dog because he went for them. There were armed police there, in their helmets and guns. I was in shock for quite a while. I had to go to hospital to be treated. I had three teeth marks in my arm and I needed a tetanus and an X-ray. I was lucky that it wasn’t too deep,” she added.

Confirming the incident, the South Wales Police said they received several reports about the dog which was out of control. The two other women bitten by the canine did not sustain serious injuries.

“As a precaution the road was closed between Pentrepoeth Road and the junction with Pleasant Street and Waun Road. Officers managed to contain the dog and a vet was called to the scene. Due to its continued aggressive nature and further risk to members of the public the dog was humanely destroyed,” a police spokesperson said.
