KEY POINTS

  • Apple AirPods Pro can double as a hearing aid through this trick
  • The trick can also work with Power Beats Pro
  • The method is excellent for those with hearing impairment

Apple launched the AirPods Pro in Oct. 2019 and introduced the wireless earbuds as an updated and premium version of the existing AirPods. Apple claims that with its improved design, active noise cancellation technology, and better sound quality, the AirPods Pro could bring the magic of the AirPods to a different height. True enough, aside from being a pair of wireless earbuds, the current generation of Apple premium earbuds can work as a hearing aid; here is how you can do it.

Use AirPods Pro As Hearing Aid

For Apple AirPods Pro to function as a hearing aid, your iPhone must run on iOS 12 or higher. The Listen Live functionality for AirPods is only available on iOS 12 and above. This trick applies to all AirPods models.

To transform your AirPods Pro into a hearing aid, connect it first with your iPhone. Navigate on the Settings app of your mobile device and look for More Controls section. When you get there, tap the ‘+’ icon after Hearing and add it to the available toggle switches.

Navigate to Control Center by swiping on the top right-hand corner of the display (upward or downward). In the Control Center, tap the Hearing icon and then tap on Live Listen. Everything is a little bit amplified. The trick utilizes Live Listen to allow the mic of your iPhone to give you an amplified sound.

For best results or those with hearing impairments, place the device close to the audio source. Live Listen is in the market for four years and has worked with some series of hearings to pick up audio from the iPhone amplifying it for the listener. Live Listen could also work as a spy tool to eavesdrop on other people’s conversations.

AirPods Pro Firmware Update 2C54

Apple released Firmware Update 2C54 for AirPods Pro. Some users reported that the update improved the bass quality of the wireless earbuds. However, it dropped the isolation of the Active Noise cancellation feature.

Apple pulled the firmware update for unknown reasons. Hopefully, it is fixing this issue with the Active Noise Cancellation feature.
