An airport worker in Florida was caught filming people, including an 11-year-old child, from under the restroom stall door, police said.
The accused, identified as Michel Fernandez Fuentes, was an employee of a food and beverage company at St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport. Fuentes was arrested on Sept. 9 after he allegedly took pictures of the two victims from under the stall while using the adjacent bathroom on June 30, 2022.
Fuentes faces charges of video voyeurism of an adult and a minor, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
The investigation revealed that Fuentes had entered the bathroom and used the stall next to the two victims. "Both victims, one of which was an 11-year-old child, saw their image on the screen of the phone, presumably via the device's front-facing camera," deputies said.
The police did not disclose the identities of the victims but said they did not know each other and were scheduled to board two separate flights, NY Post reported.
During interrogation, the 46-year-old accused admitted that he used his phone while sitting on the toilet but claimed to have not accessed the phone's camera or used it to record the victims.
However, the investigators found out that Fuentes had accessed both the camera and the photo gallery of his phone multiple times while he was inside the bathroom, Law & Crime reported.
When the deputies searched Fuentes's cell phone, they also found more than 160 photos featuring other, unknown people's legs, which appeared to be filmed similarly, from adjacent stalls, police said.
Fuentes was released from the Pinellas County jail on a $15,000 bond Saturday.
In a similar incident in July, a man working at Yosemite National Park was arrested after he allegedly attempted to take the video of a female law enforcement officer while she was in the shower. The suspect, identified as Michael Patrick Raridan, a maintenance worker in the White Wolf area of Yosemite, was charged on counts of filming with intent to violate a person's privacy and committing an obscene act to breach the peace. The unidentified victim was a "commissioned federal law enforcement officer" at the park.
