The option for Manchester United to bring Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek has gained support from former football star Rafael van der Vaart. The roster of the Red Devils continues to improve as the team is looking for other opportunities to deepen their lineup.
"Donny deserves this transfer so much," Van der Vaart said by way of Goal.com.
The 23-year-old holds promise and can provide as a strong fit for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad as they’re close in signing the star.
"He has played excellent for Ajax,” Van der Vaart continued.
As an attacking midfielder, several teams have already scouted van de Beek as a high-value talent on the field. Clubs such as Real Madrid and Barcelona have already been linked to the young star before. The high demand proves how the former Dutch Cup winner is a valuable asset for any team to have.
"And Manchester United really need this kind of player in their team. This transfer is fantastic for us [Dutch people] too. We are all going to follow him now. This move is so deserved," Van der Vaart added.
With van de Beek developing as a consistent performer for any team, his market value is currently estimated to be at 44 million Euros. The way he plays on the field backs up this figure as he’s served in a total of 175 games for Ajax and has scored 41 times to go along with 34 assists. In 23 appearances in the latest Eredivisie season, he’s managed to notch eight goals and tally six assists. Out of most of these matches, van de Beek put up major minutes as he started 22 times.
With Paul Pogba revitalized as a worthy partner for Bruno Fernandes, Solskjaer’s team has a lot to look forward to in the years to come. Developing players such as Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood are slowly maturing into top performers as well and securing someone like van de Beek further enhances their lineup.
