Alabama Man Shot By Wife's Boyfriend Who Had Been Secretly Living In Their House
An Alabama man was injured during a shooting at his home Sunday after he mistook his wife's boyfriend for an intruder, police said. The woman's boyfriend had been secretly living in the house for some time.
Around 9 p.m. Sunday, police officers responded to a shooting at 476 Skidmore Road in Creola and found two males with gunshot wounds. Both the men were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The homeowner, Frank Reeves, was shot by 53-year-old Michael Amacker in the chest. Frank too fired at Amacker multiple times, striking his leg and elbow, reported WPMI. According to the police, Frank’s wife Tracy Reeves alerted her husband about an intruder being inside their home. Frank then armed himself with his gun and shot at Amacker.
It was later discovered by the investigators that Tracy not only knew the intruder but he was also her boyfriend. Tracy had been in a relationship with Amacker for over a year and had allowed him to stay at their home. Frank did not know that the accused was living inside their home.
"She had been allowing him to stay within the home for a couple of days, providing him food; there were bottles of urine in the room, which indicated he had been in there for a little while," said Captain Paul Burch of the Mobile County Sheriff’s office, reported WKRG.
According to police, Tracy was intoxicated during the shooting and incoherent while officers tried to interview her at the scene. Police believe drugs were involved in the incident. Amacker had multiple past charges of manufacturing and possessing controlled substances such as methamphetamine.
Investigators suspect that the incident could be a murder-for-hire case and possibly explain why Tracy told her husband that an intruder was inside the house when she knew about Amacker’s presence. However, the theory has not been confirmed yet.
"People that are on meth not only do they have paranoia, they also can’t keep their mouth shut," said Burch, reported WKRG. "So if there was some kind of diabolical plan it is very possible Amacker has told some other people prior to or certainly not after the fact."
Currently, Amacker is facing attempted murder, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number charges. Amacker is a convicted felon and more federal charges could be added later.
