Alabama vs. Georgia 2022: Odds, Prediction, Start Time For College Football National Championship
The 2022 College Football National Championship Game is a familiar matchup, one that took place a little over a month ago. Alabama and Georgia will face off Monday night in what the Bulldogs hope is a very different contest from their meeting in this season’s SEC Championship Game.
Georgia entered the Dec. 4 conference title game undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the country. The Crimson Tide took the SEC Championship and the nation’s top-ranking with a 41-24 rout of the Bulldogs.
The latest betting odds suggest the national championship game will be much more competitive. Despite the loss, Georgia is a three-point favorite over Alabama across various sportsbooks. The Bulldogs are -145 favorites to win outright. The SEC champs are given +125 odds to pull off the upset.
Alabama stunned a historic Georgia defense with 536 yards of total offense. Quarterback Bryce Young locked up the Heisman Trophy by throwing for 421 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Young rushed for 40 yards and a score.
Georgia was a 7.5-point favorite in its first matchup with Alabama. The Bulldogs surrendered just seven offensive touchdowns in 12 games before losing to their conference rivals. Quarterback Stetson Bennetter had 21 touchdown passes and five interceptions during the 12-0 start, but was picked off twice by Alabama's defense.
James Cook and Zamir White entered the SEC Championship Game averaging a combined 106 rushing yards per contest on 5.8 yards per carry. The Georgia running backs totaled 65 yards on 3.6 yards per attempt against Alabama.
In the College Football Playoff Semifinal, the Georgia team that had been so dominant in the regular season returned. Georgia’s 34-11 win over Michigan was even more one-sided than the final score might suggest. The Wolverines didn’t score a touchdown until late in the fourth quarter when the game had long been decided.
Which Georgia team will show up Monday at 8 p.m. EST for the start of the national championship game from Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium?
"Georgia's going to come out and play their hardest game. They're a great team, and I don't think they have any mental or kinda something blocking them mentally from winning," Alabama linebacker Henry To'oTo'o said via ESPN. "I think Georgia's going to come out and play hard, fast and physical as they usually do. They're going to play their game. Georgia's a tremendous team, and it's up to us to answer the bell, how we respond, how we execute, how we play. We're excited for the challenge."
Monday’s game could look similar to the 2018 National Championship Game between Alabama and Georgia. The contest went to overtime and the Crimson Tide won 26-23 on Tua Tagovailoa’s third touchdown pass of the night.
Alabama has the nation's top quarterback in Young and the sport’s best head coach in Nick Saban. Considering the way the Crimson Tide beat the Bulldogs in December, it’s hard to pick against the reigning champs in Monday’s rematch.
Prediction: Alabama over Georgia, 27-20
