‘Aladdin’ 2019 Movie Cast: Meet The Aladdin, Jasmine, Genie, Jafar Actors And More
Disney’s 2019 live-action “Aladdin” adaptation will begin enchanting moviegoers on Friday, but there’s still a lot to know about the remake of the 1992 animated film of the same name.
While the plot — thief Aladdin falls for Princess Jasmine and hopes a wish-granting Genie will help him and them have a better life — has a lot of similarities, this new movie was directed by Guy Ritchie and written by both Ritchie and John August.
There’s also a whole new cast to get to know. This time around, you won’t just get to hear some recognizable voices take on the characters, you’ll get to see some recognizable and some fairly new actors actually become those characters.
Without further ado, your wish to get to know the 2019 “Aladdin” cast has been granted.
Mena Massoud (Aladdin)
Prior to landing the major movie role of Aladdin, Massoud played Jared Malik in the short-lived 2015 Canadian drama, “Open Heart,” which aired in the United States on TeenNick. Most recently, he could be seen on Amazon’s “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” series as Tarek Kassar, opposite John Krasinski.
Naomi Scott (Princess Jasmine)
This won’t be the first time Scott’s shown off her musical chops in a movie. Her first film was the 2011 Disney Channel musical dramedy, “Lemonade Mouth,” with Bridgit Mendler and Hayley Kiyoko. She sang multiple songs for the flick, including her big solo tune, “She’s So Gone.”
That same year, she also starred on the Fox sci-fi show, “Terra Nova.” After that, she worked on a few video shorts while continuing to work on her music — she’s released two EPs and a few singles — before taking on the role of Kimberly, the Pink Ranger, in the 2017 “Power Rangers” flick. Now, she has “Aladdin” out Friday and the new “Charlie’s Angels” movie due out later this year.
Will Smith (Genie / Mariner)
After starring on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” for six seasons in the ‘90s, co-leading the “Men in Black” movies with Tommy Lee Jones and the “Baby Boys” flicks with Martin Lawrence, portraying Muhammad Ali in a 2001 biopic, making viewers laugh with “Hitch,” taking on the role of Deadshot in “Suicide Squad” and getting his drama on with movies like “Seven Pounds,” “I Am Legend” and “The Pursuit of Happyness,” it’s unlikely “Aladdin” viewers haven’t seen Smith in a project before.
Marwan Kenzari (Jafar)
The Dutch actor made his United States debut in 2016 with “Collide,” which also starred Nicholas Hoult and Felicity Jones. Later that year, he was in “Ben-Hur” and “The Promise.” Over the last couple of years, Kenzari could be seen in “The Mummy” and “Murder on the Orient Express” and Netflix movies “What Happened to Monday” and “The Angel.”
Navid Negahban (Sultan)
Since he started working onscreen in 2000, Negahban’s been in over 100 projects, including “Homeland,” “24,” “Atlas Shrugged: Part I,” “Words and Pictures,” “American Sniper,” “12 Strong” and “American Assassin.”
Nasim Pedrad (Dalia)
As a “Saturday Night Live” and “New Girl” alum, Pedrad’s sure to bring a little extra hint of comedy to “Aladdin.” She was also on “Scream Queens,” “People of Earth” and “Mulaney.”
Billy Magnussen (Prince Anders)
The actor got his start on the soap opera “As the World Turns,” where he played Casey Hughes from 2008 to 2010. The year he left was the same year he starred in the crime drama, “Twelve,” with Chace Crawford and Emma Roberts. After going on to guest star on a bunch of shows, Magnussen landed the role of Rapunzel’s Prince in 2014’s “Into the Woods.”
Since then, he’s been in movies like “Bridge of Spies” and “Game Night” and shows like “Tell Me a Story” and “Maniac.”
See “Aladdin” in theaters on Friday.
