Alicia Vikander is opening up about pregnancy and motherhood.

The Swedish actress, 33, and her husband Michael Fassbender, 45, quietly welcomed a son, whose name is yet to be revealed, in early 2021.

In a new cover interview for Harper's Bazaar U.K., Vikander gave a rare insight into her difficult fertility journey, revealing that she "struggled" to get pregnant for a while before having her first child.

"I tried to get pregnant for a while. So I had tough times during lockdown. I struggled for a while," she shared.

Both the "Tomb Raider" actress and her husband are known to be private when it comes to their marriage and family, but Vikander said she ultimately chose to talk about her pregnancy struggles during the interview because "it's universal and so many women go through similar things. And it's tough."

Vikander explained that she "didn't think (she) even wanted children" until she turned 30. But a miscarriage had made the actress realize she wanted to be a mother.

"For a while, I didn't think that I could get pregnant," she added.

When she officially became a mom, Vikander said that having a child changed her life "in every way."

The actress also explained that she and Fassbender now schedule projects with their baby boy in mind.

"In my little family, with my husband and my child, we travel together, always. That's the rule," she shared. "We do jobs so one of us can always be with the baby."

Vikander wed the "X-Men: First Class" star in October 2017 in a private ceremony in Ibiza, four years after they co-starred in "The Light Between the Oceans." The couple subsequently settled down in Lisbon, Portugal.

Four months later, the "Danish Girl" star offered a glimpse of their married life during an interview with Vogue. She gushed that she was "more happy and content than" she had ever been, clarifying, "The happy-and-content thing, that's talking about my private life."

Vikander is currently filming the HBO series "Irma Vep" from director Olivier Assayas. She will return to the big screen in "Firebrand" and "Tomb Raider 2."
