Alison Brie Teases 'Community' Movie: 'Wheels Are Turning'
Alison Brie talked about "Community" sitcom getting a movie adaptation, noting that there has been movement in the project and people are talking.
The actress teased the popular sitcom's movie version and said on the "UnWrapped" podcast Monday, "You know what, I’ll say it. There’s been movement. There’s been some talks. People are talking and certain things — wheels are turning. I said it!"
The 39-year-old shared that she is not sure if these conversations will eventually turn into a movie or not but she is glad that these real conversations are happening, adding that it’s progress.
"I’m saying there are legitimate conversations that are happening. Whether or not they will ever turn into an actual movie — I would love it if they did, and I hope that they do," she added. "But the fact alone that actual real conversations are happening is I think the most progress we’ve ever made on that front."
Brie was a regular on the TV series from 2009 to 2015. She portrayed Annie Edison's character on the show.
The series revolved around a fast-talking lawyer whose degree gets revoked and to make a comeback he needs to attend Greendale Community College. How he meets more people at the college and learns about himself and other characters unfolds the story further.
Ahead of Brie, her co-star Joel McHale, who played Jeff Winger on the show, opened up about reprising his role again for the upcoming movie.
"I'm setting aside all the money to make [the movie] happen," McHale told ComicBook in June. "Before when I'd answer the question, I'd be like, 'Maybe, I have no idea.' But now, with its success on the streamers during the pandemic, the interest has returned."
The 50-year-old actor went on to explain that the movie version is more likely to happen now but shared why it is not going to be easy.
"It's like building an aircraft carrier," he explained. "You go, 'We're gonna do this, right? Yeah, okay, everybody's here, we got the money.' Now, this thing has to actually get built. There's a lot more than just 'Hey, let's make a movie now, great.' It's a lot of moving parts."
The show also starred Danny Pudi, Donald Glover, Gillian Jacobs, Chevy Chase, Ken Jeong, John Oliver, Brie Larson and Yvette Nicole Brown. "Community" is currently streaming on Netflix.
