All The Actors Who Are Reportedly Leaving ‘Days Of Our Lives’ This Year
“Days of Our Lives” has been going through quite a bit of drama behind-the-scenes in recent months, specifically after news broke the show had released the entire cast from their contracts before the daytime soap was picked up for a new season. However, the show being renewed for another year didn’t necessarily mean that all of the characters will be continuing their story arcs after 2020 comes to an end.
So far, there has been a flurry of reports suggesting actors may be leaving the show, some of whom have been a part of front-burner storylines on the NBC soap for some time. Here’s a roundup of everyone who has already made an exit, and who else is expected to before the year ends.
Casey Moss (JJ Devereaux)
After losing his girlfriend Haley (Thia Mega), who was revealed to have died after the show’s time jump, JJ struggled with his drug addiction once again and sought revenge on Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) for killing her. Since then he got clean again and was committed to helping Lani (Sal Stowers) expose what Gabi (Camila Banus) had done one-year prior involving Julie’s (Susan Seaforth Hayes) pacemaker. The actor’s final episode aired Feb. 8, when he and the rest of his family headed off to Africa for his off-screen grandfather’s funeral. It is unclear how his absence will be explained when the rest of the Horton/Devereaux clan comes back to Salem.
Galen Gering (Rafe Hernandez)
While appearing on the Cliff Dorfman Show podcast earlier in February, Gering, who has portrayed Rafe since 2008, hinted that his contract had expired.
“The fact of the matter is, I might as well say it. I don’t know how long I’m going to be on the show...what the next chapter holds,” he said at the time. “If I’m staying, if I’m going, I know I’m definitely going for a bit, you know what I’m saying.”
Soaps.com has since revealed Gering finished up taping scenes on Feb. 13, which would put his final airdate somewhere in August or September.
Chandler Massey (Will Horton) and Freddie Smith (Sonny Kiriakis)
Perhaps the most shocking exits are the now confirmed ones of Massey and Smith, whose characters made history as the first male/male couple on daytime TV to marry. Smith revealed the news in a YouTube video, stating that the two had both returned for their guaranteed six episodes after the hiatus, but that they were soon after written off the show entirely.
“Days of Our Lives” airs weekdays on NBC.
