Washington’s NFL franchise will be called the “Washington Football Team,” according to ESPN, pending the adoption of a new name. The news comes 10 days after the team announced it would change the Redskins name.

NBC Sports also confirmed the change, citing unnamed sources.

The Football Team name is expected to be temporary. Washington plans to eventually choose a final name to rebrand the franchise.

Washington hopes to completely retire the Redskins name in all forms before its first scheduled game of the NFL season on Sept. 13. The Redskins logo will be replaced on each player’s helmet with their jersey number. The burgundy and gold color scheme will remain the same.

The team had been called the Redskins since 1932, its first NFL season. Owner Daniel Snyder repeatedly resisted calls to change the name, which is considered to be a racist slur against Native Americans.

Sponsors such as Nike and FedEx, which owns the naming rights to Washington’s stadium, publicly asked for the team name to be changed.

Washington has continued to make headlines this summer for off-field matters. The organization recently launched an internal investigation after 15 former female employees and two journalists accused team staffers of sexual harassment.
