‘All Of Us Are Dead’ Star Yoon Chan-Young Is Surprised By Fame: ‘I Can’t Believe It’

Yoon Chan-Young, who plays Cheong San in the Netflix smash hit "All Of Us Are Dead," is still wrapping his head around the fact that he is famous, and not just in South Korea but across the world.

The cast of the Korean zombie drama became instantly famous after the show's premiere on the streaming platform on Jan. 28. From a decent number of followers on Instagram, Yoon saw his follower count rise to 4.2 million in just a matter of weeks.

"I can’t believe it," the 20-year-old former child actor told Dazed Korea, as translated by Koreaboo.

Yoon said he realized he was become famous when he recently went to Seoul Express Bus Terminal and saw people coming to him for photos. "I didn’t expect it but lots of people recognized me and said, 'It’s Cheong San!' They also came up to me to take photos. I’m still dazed, and I have a lot of different feelings about it."

"All of Us Are Dead" follows the story of a group of high school students who go through various difficulties as they try to survive a zombie virus outbreak that began in their school. Just a day after its release, the series grabbed the No. 1 spot on Netflix charts in 25 countries.

Yoon’s character, Cheong San is a lovestruck high school senior who is one of the leaders in the group of survivors fleeing the school grounds for safety.

Landing the role was like a sweet respite for the young actor who was going through a difficult time at the time of the auditions.

"It was like a movie. I was preparing for university entrance exams and went through a difficult time. I applied for early admissions for a few universities, but the results weren’t great. I was disappointed and blamed myself, but I got myself up again and went back to practicing," he said. "While this was going on, I heard about the audition for 'All of Us Are Dead.' I thought this would be a great opportunity to test myself...I got the call two months later, and I was ecstatic. I also got accepted to Hanyang University, so it was a very meaningful year to me."

Earlier this month, Yoon uploaded a snap with a zombie character in the series.
