Amanda Bynes To Drop Sexual Harassment Suit Against The NYPD Following Marijuana Arrest
Child star-turned-tabloid nightmare Amanda Bynes has claimed that she was sexually harassed by a New York City police officer who arrested her last week, though NYPD Internal Affairs found no wrongdoing. Now Bynes appears to be dropping a threatened lawsuit against the NYPD.
Last Thursday, Bynes, 27, was arrested after allegedly throwing a bong water pipe out of her Midtown Manhattan apartment when NYPD officers checked up on her following complaints of noise from neighbors. Soon after she was arrested, Bynes claimed that her arresting officer sexually harassed her and “slapped [her] vagina.”
Bynes stated that she would be launching a lawsuit against the NYPD, though MTV News now reports that NYPD Internal Affairs have found no evidence that Bynes was sexually harassed by an officer.
"NYPD Internal Affairs investigators have found no evidence to corroborate Ms. Bynes' allegations," the NYPD told MTV on Tuesday. "To the contrary, a credible civilian witness who was with the officers throughout told investigators that none touched Ms. Bynes inappropriately or otherwise engaged in misconduct at any time."
A tweet from Bynes seems to imply that although she will be dropping the sexual harassment case, but will still seek financial restitution from the NYPD.
"My lawyer is getting my case dropped!" Bynes claimed in a statement posted to her Twitter feed. "There was no proof of sexual harassment or drugs. Instead of me asking for the cop to be arrested for sexual harassment, I want my case dropped as well. His punishment will be being the cop who sexually harassed someone who would never find him handsome enough to be my boyfriend. That's worse than any time in jail. But I am suing him for money compensation. I love having more money in my bank!"
In another tweet, Bynes referred to TMZ’s claim that she threw a bong out of her window as entirely false. She also claims that she is in the process of suing the gossip news site for defamation as she does not use drugs.
“Tmz is being sued as we speak,” Bynes wrote. “That's fake! They and NYPD is trying to frame me for a crime I didn't commit. There was no drug paraphanilia [sic] in or around my apartment on the day I was arrested. Someone went to my apartment and photographed glass outside. This is the smutiest [sic] site of all. I've already forgotten about it! I'm drug free and love talking about it!”
Bynes, once a child star on Nickelodeon shows like “All That” and “The Amanda Show,” has shown increasingly erratic behavior over the past year. She has drawn many comparisons to fellow child star gone awry Lindsay Lohan, especially considering she is currently awaiting a court date on DUI charges in California.
Bynes is scheduled to appear in court on July 9.
