Amanda Bynes Opens Up About Ending 9-Year-Long Conservatorship Amid Court Date
Former Nickelodeon star Amanda Bynes spoke out on Tuesday about how she is in the works of ending her conservatorship.
Bynes acknowledged her supporters and informed them that she will have a court date in two weeks to discuss the terms of her conservatorship in a video posted to her Instagram account.
"What's up Instagram, Amanda Bynes here," she said. "My court date is coming up in two weeks. I want to thank you all for your love and support. Peace out."
The conservatorship was court-ordered after she allegedly set a driveway on fire and has been in place since August 2013, People magazine reported. At the time, Bynes was suffering from substance abuse and other issues that led to the conservatorship being put into place.
“Everybody is different, obviously, but for me, the mixture of marijuana and whatever other drugs and sometimes drinking really messed up my brain,” Bynes said when explaining her struggles in an interview with Paper magazine in 2018.
“It really made me a completely different person. I actually am a nice person. I would never feel, say or do any of the things that I did and said to the people I hurt," she added.
Bynes's mother is her conservator and approves of the conservatorship ending, NBC News reported.
Bynes's attorney, David A. Esquibias, told People magazine that "Amanda wishes to terminate her conservatorship. She believes her condition is improved and protection of the court is no longer necessary."
