Amazon Kindle outsells real book sales on Christmas day
With the holiday shopping buzz behind us, Amazon released its annual post-Christmas statement and announced that more Kindle books were sold than real books through Amazon on Christmas day.
Amazon also announced that the “Kindle is the most gifted item ever”, placing the 8GB iPod touch and its 32GB sibling in the second and third place among the online retailer's bestsellers in any category.
We are grateful to our customers for making Kindle the most gifted item ever in our history, said Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos.
The online retailer didn't release any specific numbers as to how many Kindles and physical books were sold.
Amazon said the peak shopping day for the online retailer was December 14, when customers ordered more than 9.5 million items worldwide, a record-breaking 110 items per second.
Other top selling gadgets included the Garmin Nuvi 260W GPS, Casio's Waveceptor Atomic Dual-Time Watch, Oster's Electric Wine-Bottle Opener, Omron's HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer, and Bosch's Laser Distance Measuring Device.
