Amazon Prime Alexa-Based Sign-Up Gets $20 Off Membership As Prime Day Approches
The artificially intelligent voice assistant market is slowly getting crowded, and Amazon, one of the first movers in the segment, is striving to differentiate itself from the rest. The retail giant is bringing out special offers, especially for those who use its voice assistant Alexa.
Amazon has offered a discount of $20 on the Amazon Prime membership if you sign up through Alexa. You can simply give Alexa the voice command saying, “Alexa, sign me up for Prime” and you will be able to sign up for the one-year membership for $79. The company also announced exclusive deals for Alexa users which will be available starting Wednesday until July 17. The deals will be available at the voice command, "Alexa, what are your deals today?"

If you purchase an Amazon device via Alexa voice command between Wednesday and Sunday, you will receive a $10 Amazon promo code. Just asking Alexa for daily deals will enter users in a $5,000 Sweepstakes competition. These devices include:
- Amazon Echo
- Echo Dot
- Echo Show
- Amazon Tap
- Fire TV
- Current-generation Fire tablets
Amazon will also hold its Prime Day globally next Monday and will offer exclusive deals to Prime members for 30 hours starting 9 a.m. EDT. Some of the deals on offer are:
- $50 off on Bose Bose Soundlink Bluetooth speaker III, available at the voice command “Alexa, order Bose Soundlink three”
- $20 off on Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus 2nd generation, available at the voice command “Alexa, order Philips Lightstrip Plus”
- $7 off on Wemo Mini smart plug, available at the voice command “Alexa, order Wemo Mini smart plug”
- $6 off on Greenies dog treats, original flavor 27 oz., available at the voice command “Alexa order Greenies dog treats”
- 50 percent discount on Wickedly Prime Sweet n’ Cheesy popcorn mix, available at the voice command,”Alexa, order sweet and cheesy popcorn”
- 35 percent pm Haribo Gummi Bear 12-pack, available at the voice command “Alexa, order Haribo Gummi Bears”
- 30 percent off on Squatty Potty, available at the voice command “Alexa, order Squatty Potty”
If you don’t own an Amazon Echo smart speaker, you will be able to place orders via the Huawei Mate 9 or HTC U11.
Amazon’s gambit might entice more users towards its smart speakers. The company faces competition from the likes of Apple and Google currently, and both have their own voice-assistant based smart speakers in the market. Even Samsung is rumored to be working on a smart speaker, based on its Bixby voice assistant.

Amazon's exclusive deals for Alexa are expected to entice more users towards its products. Alexa also ties up nicely with the company’s prime membership which gives a user a guaranteed two-day delivery along with exclusive deals for prime members, including access to Prime Video and Prime Music.
