Amazon TV Pilot 2014 Roundup: Watch 5 New Shows For Free; What Will Make It Past The First Episode?
New Year, new TV -- that seems to be Amazon’s motto for 2014. Recently, the e-commerce company decided to release slew of new 30-minute pilots for its costumers to enjoy. And luckily for you, we’re here to help you determine which of Amazon’s five shows you should watch.
The first free pilot available for Amazon account holders to watch is “Bosch.” Produced by Michael Zakin, the Amazon original is based on Michael Connelly’s best-selling book series about an LAPD homicide detective, Harry Bosch, played by Titus Welliver, who hopes to solve the murder of a 13-year-old boy while standing trial in federal court for the murder of a serial killer. Joining the “Argo” actor in the Amazon flick is Jamie Hector, Amy Aquino, Amy Price- Francis, Annie Wesching and "The Walking Dead's" Scott Wilson. “Bosch” received 8.9/10 stars.
Looking for something a little more “classical”? Then “Mozart in the Jungle” is for you -- that is, if you’re into sex, drugs and classical music. “What happens behind the curtains at the symphony can be just as captivating as what happens on stage,” the synopsis of flick says. “Mozart in the Jungle,” created by Paul Weitz (About a Boy), Roman Cappola (The Darjeeling Limited), Jason Schwartzman (Moonrise Kingdom) and Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher), received 8.2/10 stars.
Still hoping Los Angeles gets a football team of its own? Well, your wish comes true in the pilot for “The Rebels,” created by Jeremy Garelick (“The Break-Up”) and Jon Weinback (“30 for 30”). The comedy dives into the story of Julie (Natalie Zea) and the recent devastating loss of her husband. While mourning his death, Julie is surprised when she learns that her late husband had left her as the sole owner of The LA Rebels, a professional football team. But it looks like the former cheerleader is in over her head when she’s unable to juggle the responsibility of leading a team. Can she pull it off? Hayes MacArthur (“Go On”) and Josh Peck (“Drake & Josh)” will be make their Amazon debut in the 7.7/10 rated show.
If you loved “Six Feet Under” and “United States of Tara,” then you’ll definitely want to check out “Transparent,” created by Jill Soloway. The story follows an LA family with some serious boundary issues during a very sensitive time in their lives. According to the synopsis, both the past and future of the family unravel when a dramatic admission causes everyone’s secrets to spill. The comedy rated 7.4/10 stars features an amazing cast including “Arrested Development’s” Jeffrey Tambor and Gabby Hoffmann from “Crystal Fairy & the Magical Cactus."
Last but not least is the Amazon original titled “The After.” From Chris Carter, the creator of “The X-Files,” comes a story about eight strangers who are thrown together by mysterious forces. The group must help each other survive in a violent world that defies explanation, according to the show’s synopsis. The 7.7/10 rated series stars Aldis Hodge (“Leverage”), Andrew Howard (“Elementary”), Arielle Kebbel (“The Vampire Diaries”), Jamie Kennedy (“Ghost Whisperer”), Sharon Lawrence (“Drop Dead Diva”), Sam Littlefield, Louise Monot and Jaina Lee Ortiz.
