Late last year, Amazon announced that it tapped the electric vehicle startup Rivian to help in its plan to help fight the effect of climate change. The e-commerce giant revealed that it is aiming to deploy 10,000 electric delivery vans developed by Rivian in 2022 and a total of 100,000 by 2030. Now, both companies are giving the public more details about this electric vehicle delivery fleet.

Amazon’s Electric Delivery Vans By Rivian

In a new blog post that comes with a video, Amazon shared some details about its electric delivery vans. These vans will be available in three sizes with several battery configurations to support different delivery routes, the company reveals. Additionally, the vans would come with all-wheel and front-wheel driving options for different kinds of terrains.

Amazon also shares that the electric delivery vans from Rivian would be equipped with several safety features. It includes lane-keep assists, automated emergency braking, and pedestrian warning system. The upcoming electric delivery vans expected to grace the roads in 2021 would also feature an automatic warning system that senses and sends alerts for driver’s distracted behavior, as well as traffic design recognition.

Other Details

Moreover, Amazon’s electric delivery vehicles would be integrated with the logistics system of the company. It other words, the vehicles would have the package and routing delivery system of the company. Amazon believes that through these features, drivers could concentrate on driving since they would no longer need mapping devices and delivery instructions.

Additionally, the electric delivery vans would have a built-in Alexa to enable drivers to use voice commands when driving and when moving packages. According to the e-Commerce giant, current delivery drivers have inputs on the design of the vehicles. It includes the feels of the seat, package loading, and unloading, as well as the ease of getting in and out of the delivery vans.

Amazon is not the only company that has placed its faith with Rivian. Earlier this year, Ford said it is collaborating with the electric vehicle startup to develop a Lincoln luxury electric truck brand. Rivian is also preparing to release its own electric pickup truck and electric crossover SUV, the Rivian R1T and Rivian R1S.
