Amber Alert: 3-day-old Abducted Baby Found ‘Alive and Safe’ After Mother Shot Dead

A 3-day-old abducted baby boy was found alive and safe after his mother was shot dead outside a doctor's office in Houston, the police said.

The infant, Keegan Schuchardt, was found around 8 p.m. local time, about six hours after his mother Kala Marie Golden was shot following an argument in a parking lot near a doctor's office, Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon said.

Ligon did not mention where the baby was found but said that the father was en route to be reunited with the baby.

The baby's grandmother Linda Golden and his father Keith Schuchardt, along with other family members, arrived at Conroe Police Department late Tuesday.

His grandmother said that they were told that the authorities wanted to do some background investigations on the entire family before handing the infant over to them.

My daughter was brutally murdered protecting her baby. I think the baby should be given back to us, Golden told Houston Chronicle. We've had enough today. We would just like our baby back.

On Tuesday afternoon, the 28-year-old mother was leaving the Montgomery County pediatric clinic off Borough Park and Sawdust with her son after a routine checkup when she had an argument with a woman in a Lexus sedan parked next to her pickup truck.

Golden screamed my baby, my baby! as the infant was grabbed by the woman who jumped out of a Lexus sedan parked next to her car.

According to witnesses, the woman repeatedly shot Golden, grabbed the infant and sped away in her car. Montgomery County sheriff's Lt. Dan Norris told Associated Press. Witnesses said that there was a man too in the Lexus and they also heard as many as seven gunshots.

We believe that some sort of a verbal altercation occurred between the mother of the child and a black female that was in the car parked next to her, Norris said. The mother of the child tries to get into the vehicle because the black female suspect has taken the child out of the pickup truck and put the child in the Lexus.

The shooting occurred just after 2 p.m. outside the doctor's office in Spring, which is about 20 miles north of Houston. However, the mother died of her injuries at Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands.

Authorities later discovered the Lexus at Fawnridge Apartments in the 12400 block of Sawmill Road. Authorities announced in a news conference that the baby had been found safe and alive.

Ligon said at the press conference that one person of interest was in custody and we are trying to determine the motive behind the shooting and kidnapping.
