Amber Alert: Bentley Stancil, 9, Missing From North Carolina After Running Into Wooded Area
An Amber Alert was issued Tuesday night for a 9-year-old child from Wendell, North Carolina. The Wake County Sheriff's Office issued the alert after 8:30 p.m. for Bentley Gunner Stancil who is considered missing.
Bentley is said to be 4 feet and 7 inches tall and weighs 75 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen Tuesday wearing a long sleeve black hoodie, black school backpack, blue jeans, and black and white sneakers, the alert said, WBTV reported.
Shocking details have emerged about the disappearance of the boy, who left his home in the morning and was headed to school. Bentley walked to his school bus stop at Questor Lane and Outdigger Drive, ABC11 reported. However, he did not get on the bus, the alert said.
The boy was seen running into a wooded area across the street from Questor Lane on Wendell Boulevard around 10 a.m. ET, Sheriff's Office said. The location is 2 miles from his home.
12 hours later, his family continued to look for him in a marshy area off Wendell Boulevard. The Sheriff's Office and FBI are jointly leading the search operation. Volunteers have joined in the search for Stancil.
The boy's father, Brandon Stancil said, "I would like a lot of people to be out here looking... I know they can't just take their resources just for that, but at the same time something has got to give."
The distraught father continued, "There's a lot of questions I wanted to ask but the more important thing is just finding him and making sure he comes home. Him running away is one thing ... but I just want him home safe. That's basically it," the outlet reported.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Wake County Sheriff's Office at 919-856-6911.
What is an Amber Alert?
Amber Alerts are sent out for children that law enforcement authorities believe to have been abducted. These alerts are mainly used for the most serious child abduction cases, where they're believed to be in imminent danger of serious bodily harm or death.
The alerts are usually sent out with key information about the abducted and the suspected abductee. A tip line is also issued. The public is encouraged to call the number if they happen to spot individuals that match the description on these alerts.
