Amber Cole Escapade: Who Shot the Controversial Video and Who Uploaded it?

For more than two days now, Amber Cole has become a trending topic on Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites.

Although the subject has set Twitter on fire, the big questions must be who is Amber Cole and why is she trending?

The search refers to a video in which a 14-year-old school girl was taped in flagrante delicto while performing oral sex on her ex-boyfriend.

People are concerned about the fact that the video could be the most widely distributed item of alleged child porn in U.S. history. Even the photos from the infamous video are hard to look at. In a snapshot of the video, Cole is seen on her knees in front of the boy outside her school doors.

So far, there have been mixed reactions about the video; many have called her a slut, little ho and worse. Even social networking sites have exploded with disgusting remarks against the girl and about the video.

According to one set of rumors from a Web site, the boy Cole was performing oral sex on was a former boyfriend; Cole may even have lost her virginity to him. However, he reportedly broke her heart and she was trying to win him back. Taking advantage of the situation, Cole's ex-boyfriend perusaded her to perform oral sex and led her to believe that it might convince him to give their relationship another try. Cole agreed but may not have known that not only was somebody recording the act but it would even be posted on the Internet.

There have been a lot of people who have spoken in support of Cole. A video, titled Leave Amber Cole Alone went online on Wednesday. The video was recorded by another teenager, who is believed to look like and is concerned for Cole, and asks people to leave her alone and not bully her.

In addition to the controversy that the video has already generated, more rumors suggesting that Cole committed suicide surfaced. However, there is, as of yet, no evidence that effect.

There are fears that such acts of cyber bullying could lead to increased suicide attempts.

The identity of the person(s) who uploaded the explicit clip is yet to be determined. Further unconfirmed reports indicate that the Sex Crimes Unit of the Memphis Police Department, as well as other agencies, is scrutinizing the footage.

The controversial video, which has become the one of the hottest topics of conversation on social media platforms, has brought the importance of sex education for teenagers into the spotlight.

Social Media Becoming Bullying Platform

The video has sparked national outrage over teen bullying, with several reports suggesting that incidences of teen bullying, in the U.S., have been on the rise. Cole's case, however, seems to have been taken to a whole new level, courtesy social media platforms.

Just like Tyler Clementi, Cole was recorded, without permission, engaged in an intimate act. The Clementi video also got huge responses from social platforms like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

The sharing of the actual Amber Cole video has made it clear that people are doing so without considering the fact that they are, effectively, circulating child porn.

Unfortunately, social media platforms in today's world seem to espouse hypocrisy. On the one hand, while people used Twitter and Facebook to send condolence messages to families of victims of teen bullying, the same people use the same social media to watch and circulate videos like Amber Cole's.
