Amber Heard has allegedly been masking her identity under the pseudonym Martha Jane Cannary while vacationing in a small town in Spain, a report claimed.
The 36-year-old "Aquaman" actress has been MIA for months following the bombshell defamation trial with her ex-husband Johnny Depp. However, it seemed that she was hiding under American sharpshooter Calamity Jane's name, who appeared in "Buffalo Bill's Wild West" in 1893 and the 1901 Pan-American Exposition, the Spanish newspaper EL Mundo reported.
Heard has been reportedly staying in the historical Costix, a small town in Majorca, Spain, "for months," and despite being recognized by the locals, she was mostly left alone and treated like everyone else.
"Everyone here treats her like one of the others; in fact, she's been in this town for months without anyone knowing," Miguel, a resident of the European town, told the Spanish outlet.
He continued, "I saw her, and I knew who she was, I checked it on the internet... but we didn't say anything, we don't bother anyone here, everyone does their own thing, and we don't mess with the people who come."
"Here people go about their business, live and let live, that's what's up," another local working as a waiter at the Central bar explained when asked about Heard's presence.
Others also claimed that Heard would walk around the town "discreetly" in casual clothes and a baby carrier. She would often bring her 1-year-old daughter Oonagh to the local playground during the afternoon and talk to other parents there as if she "were one of them."
When Heard first moved into the town, she was only with her daughter and assistant but recently had more companions, including ex-partner Bianca Butti, whom she married in 2015 and divorced two years later.
The actress is currently renting out a multimillion-dollar villa owned by defamed politician Maria Antònia Munar, who got released from prison over two years ago after serving seven years of a 14-year sentence on corruption offenses, according to the same outlet. It was out on sale in the market for 2.8 million euros ($2.7 million) but got removed after Heard rented it out.
The luxurious villa was reportedly built in 2020 and is located at the center of the historic town. It's a 479-square-meter chalet with large windows, an infinity pool with a view of the Tramuntana mountains, and a home cinema equipped with electronic systems from high-end brand Bang & Olufsen.
It's unclear how Heard was paying for the rent in the lavish chalet since she recently sold her California home to pay off her debts.
In June, Heard was ordered by the jury during the defamation trial in Fairfax County, Virginia, to pay her ex-husband Depp total damages of $10.35 million, including $10 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages for defaming him in her 2018 op-ed. In the column she wrote for The Washington Post, she accused the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star of domestic abuse.
A month later, the actress filed for an appeal because she claimed that there were "errors made" during the six-week trial that prevented a "just and fair verdict," The Guardian reported.
"We believe the court made errors that prevented a just and fair verdict consistent with the first amendment," Heard's representative told the outlet after submitting her filing.
He continued, "We are therefore appealing the verdict. While we realize today's filing will ignite the Twitter bonfires, there are steps we need to take to ensure both fairness and justice."
