Amber Heard To Be Cut Out Of 'Aquaman 2' Entirely, Report Claims

"Aquaman" fans may not see Amber Heard's Mera in the upcoming sequel, a report has suggested.

Days after the 36-year-old actress claimed she fought to keep her role in "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" amid her legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp, Asjad Nazir, the entertainment editor of British newspaper Eastern Eye, reported, citing "reliable" unnamed sources, that Heard's scenes may be removed from the upcoming superhero flick entirely.

"Save this tweet. Amber Heard WILL NOT be in 'Aquaman 2' (not even a cameo)," the writer, who claims that his work has been covered by over 600 media globally, wrote on Twitter Monday. "Reliable sources told me a while back they want her completely out of the movie and will figure out a way to make that happen."

International Business Times could not independently verify this information.

When she returned to the stand last week for Depp's defamation trial against her, Heard testified that she was almost cut from "Aquaman 2," in which she reprises her role as Aquaman's love interest Mera, because Warner Bros. "didn’t want to include me in the film."

"I fought really hard to stay in the movie," she told the court.

Heard claimed she was "actively scheduling timing for filming" before Depp's alleged "smear campaign" against her. Asked if she was actively involved after Depp's team called her a liar in the press, she answered, "No. The communications stopped at that point."

Heard said that while she managed to keep her role as Mera, she ultimately performed "a very pared-down version of that role."

Before Heard's testimony, film journalist Grace Randolph tweeted, citing an unnamed source, that Heard has less than 10 minutes of screentime in "Aquaman 2." The journalist did not mention if Heard's role in the sequel was always intended to be small or if her screen time was reduced in the wake of her legal battle with Depp.

On Thursday, Heard's talent agent Jessica Kovacevic shared in a pre-recorded deposition that she believes Warner Bros. wanted to replace Heard as Mera amid the flurry of bad press against her following her divorce from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star, Entertainment Weekly reported.

Kovacevic also testified that Warner Bros. cited Heard's "lack of chemistry" with "Aquaman 2" co-star Jason Momoa as a reason for possibly recasting her role.

Although the studio did not cite Heard and Depp's split as a reason for her potential recasting, the agent said that in her opinion, producers did not want to be associated with and "hire someone who has bad press."

Meanwhile, a Change.org petition calling for the removal of Heard from "Aquaman 2" has already received 4.3 million signatures amid the ongoing trial, making it "one of the top signed" petitions on the website.

"Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" will be released on March 17, 2023.
