Amber Riley's 'I Will Always Love You' Sparks Demand for More Whitney Houston Covers
With the passing of iconic pop and R&B artist Whitney Houston, the music community paid their respects by releasing a string of musical tributes. One of the most widely received was Glee star Amber Riley's rendition of the 1992 hit I Will Always Love You, which aired on the show's Valentine's Day episode.
Fans praised Riley's performance on Twitter saying:
Anyone watching Glee? If so, can we agree that Amber Riley just NAILED Whitney Houston's 'I Will Always Love You?' posted one user.
Amber Riley's rendition of I will always love you is the best cover I've ever heard from glee, tweeted another fan.
According to Broadway.com, viewers were so smitten with Mercedes' (Riley's character) tribute that they are itching to hear more of Houston's hits. Poll results found the most viewers want to see Glee tackle I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) from the late singer's 1987 self-titled release.
In second place was I Have Nothing, which was also from The Bodyguard and received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song. The Greatest Love of All placed in third, with 12 percent of votes.
And despite all the compliments, Riley remained grateful to her following, tweeting:
Thank you guys this was an amazing episode! Can't wait until next week's :)
