'Ambulance': Jake Gyllenhaal Explains Improvised Stunt Scenes In Michael Bay's Movie
Jake Gyllenhaal reveals how it feels to work with director Michael Bay, who is responsible for making movies like "Transformers," "Armageddon" and "Bad Boys," noting that he improvises the stunt scenes.
The 41-year-old actor recalled how one day he was driving home with co-star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II after filming and the 57-year-old director called them back on the sets as the Los Angeles River got opened, where he wanted to film the action scene.
"We were on our way home, Yahya was driving the ambulance," Gyllenhaal told Variety on Tuesday. "We were almost finished with our day, and we were driving to get back into our civilian clothes, out of our characters’ clothes. Michael called us on the radio and was like, ‘Wait, come back! They opened up the L.A. River!"
Gyllenhaal further explained how the director immediately called for two helicopters for the scene, which was not there in the script.
"He was like, ‘I have an idea! I have two helicopters!’" Gyllenhaal said. "And I was like, ‘How? What are you talking about, you have two helicopters? Where are they?’"
The actor explained that this is not the first time the director improvised the scene as something or the other used to happen on the sets on daily basis.
"(Michael) just planned the whole scene, sort of an improvisation of the scene, and it went that way," before adding, "Every day was a little like that. And I was like, ‘That’s why you make a Michael Bay movie. That’s the reason. To hang out of a moving vehicle and have fun.’"
"Ambulance" is an action thriller, which is slated to release this Friday. The movie revolves around a man who teams up with his adoptive brother to steal a bank in order to pay his wife's medical expenses.
