American Airlines Crew, Passengers Save Baby Who Suffered A Seizure Mid-Flight
Flight attendants and passengers on Thursday helped save a baby who was undergoing a febrile seizure aboard a U.S. flight.
Janay Flowers, 28, was flying on American Airlines from Tampa to San Antonio with her 11-month-old daughter Nevaeh to join her husband, who is stationed in the Air Force. During the flight, Nevaeh began developing a fever, which Flowers tried to take care of herself.
Nevaeh began to seize 10 minutes before touching down in Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport for a short layover. Flowers began calling for help and several passengers rushed to aid however they could.
By this time, Nevaeh’s feet had turned blue and she was foaming at the mouth.
Several crew members also stepped in to help, receiving additional aid from medical professionals on boards. The group all worked to try and cool off baby Nevaeh while getting her oxygen and keeping track of her pulse.
Nevaeh was immediately rushed to Baylor Regional Medical Center Grapevine for further treatment and stabilize her after the plane touched down.
"This medical emergency last week highlights the tremendous professionalism of American's team members, and specifically, in this situation, our flight attendants and DFW team. We are proud of our colleagues and are grateful to them for their quick actions," said American Airlines spokesperson Ross Feinstein in a statement.
American Airlines also assured Flowers that their bags would make it to San Antonio and be held for them until they arrived.
Nevaeh was discharged after receiving treatment, with Flower’s sister meeting them at the hospital to drive them from Dallas to San Antonio. She also took to Instagram to express her gratitude for the efforts on part of the doctors, crew, and passengers that helped save her daughter.
