‘American Crime Story’ Creator Ryan Murphy Teases Upcoming Episodes, Storylines
“American Crime Story” creator Ryan Murphy recently opened up about the upcoming seasons of the hit FX TV series.
While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Murphy said that he does not want to have repetitive concepts for his show. “We’ll never do another trial again like we did with ‘People v. O.J. Simpson.’ I don’t want to do the Menendez thing – we did that. So every year, every season we’re looking at a way to sort of plant the flag of that show into something but have it be dramatically different,” he explained.
Two new stories will be released as part of the 2018 lineup for “American Crime Story.” One will revolve around the 1997 killing of famed fashion designer Gianni Versace, and the second one will focus on Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. On Wednesday, Jan. 18, the creative team for “American Crime Story” and FX has started talking about a possible fourth season. The installment may focus on former President Bill Clinton and his affair with Monica Lewinsky.
Meanwhile, Murphy dished on the upcoming seasons and said that there will always be a central theme for each one. For instance, “People v. O.J. Simpson” revolved around sexism and racism. The Versace-Cunanan story will feature homophobia and celebrity worship. Hurricane Katrina may not look like an actual crime, but the creator said that natural disasters may be considered crimes nonetheless.
As of late, the casting for “American Crime Story” hasn’t started, and Murphy wants to take as much time as possible on choosing his stars. “The interesting thing that I’ve learned in my career now is I used to be like, ‘Let’s hurry up and get it done.’ And now I’m like, ‘You know what? No. Let’s stop, let’s wait, let’s have the luxury of attack mode, ’” he said.
“American Crime Story” Season 3 will premiere on FX sometime this year.
