‘American Horror Story: Cult’ Spoilers: 5 Things To Know After ‘11/9’
While clowns were something to fear in the beginning of “American Horror Story: Cult,” in episode 4, viewers saw fewer clowns and more Kai.
In the episode, titled “11/9,” Kai (Evan Peters) seems to have turned over a new leaf and goes from what seemed to be an unstable guy with anger issues to a charismatic person who relates to those who have been hurt and wronged.
Check out these 5 things you need to know after “AHS: Cult” episode 4:
1. Kai bonds with Harrison.
In “11/9,” Kai seeks out Harrison (Billy Eichner) who is a personal trainer at a gym. Although he could have requested anyone, Kai specifically chose Harrison, who he believes is strong — not just physically but on the inside as well.
After finding out that he and Meadow’s (Leslie Grossman) home is getting foreclosed, Harrison vents to Kai and tells him he feels as if he is nothing. Kai then gives him a pep talk about life and explains that to live is to suffer, and you have to find some meaning in that suffering.
2. Kai is behind the murders.
When Harrison is forced to clean the steam room of his gym he hears a noise and discovers a smiley face drawn on the glass. It is the same smiley face that has appeared at the scene of the murders over town. Later on, in another trip to the steam room where Harrison is forced to clean up once again, Kai follows him. As he is chatting with Harrison, he draws the same smiley face into the glass that has become synonymous with death.
3. Kai proves he has a talent for covering up murders.
On “American Horror Story: Cult” episode 4, Harrison has reached his wit’s end with his boss Vinny, who bullies him and forces him to do menial tasks because he is gay. Feeling down on his luck on top of his home foreclosure, Kai advises Harrison to use pain and anger to take back his life.
The first step in taking back his life? Killing his boss. After committing the act, Harrison becomes afraid that he is going to get sent to jail so Kai uses the boss’ phone to send out a mass text informing those close to him and employees that he will be out of town due to an emergency.
Harrison then realizes the security cameras caught them on tape, but Kai then assures him that a computer virus has erased the last three weeks of footage. Later on, Kai stays by Harrison’s side and guides him on how to dismember the body.
When Meadow walks into the blood-covered bathroom, she asks Harrison who is the man helping him cut apart a body. “Someone to believe in,” he says.
4. Kai is recruiting cult followers.
Kai quickly turns his focus to local news reporter Beverly Hope (Adina Porter) ,who had a violent outburst at work. The outcast is now being forced to take field assignments even though she believes she belongs in the studio.
Meanwhile, her co-worker Serina Belinda (Emma Roberts) has taken advantage of Beverly’s failures and is climbing her way to the top by any means necessary. Kai then finds Beverly and has a talk with her, explaining he admires that she lets rage consume her.
He then shares his plans to make the world afraid and eventually becoming president one day. Kai reveals that he wants her by his side with the two sharing equal power. Although Beverly is doubtful of his dreams, he gives her a card to his campaign headquarters where he says he will see her in a few days.
Not long after, Serina is stabbed to death by three clowns. After learning about Serina’s murder, Beverly rushes over to Kai’s campaign headquarters a.k.a. his basement and asks if he killed her co-worker. Kai reveals that he did it for Beverly because he would do anything for her. “I believe in you,” she says.
Beverly is later seen giving the update on a man’s body who was found without a head. The identity of the man is revealed to be Harrison’s boss and during her report, the newscaster begins to carry out Kai’s plan of inciting fear into the world.
5. Winter and Ivy have a history.
The day before the election, Ivy (Alison Pill) attended a rally where both Trump and Clinton supporters shouted at one another. During a confrontation with a Trump supporter, Gary Longstreet (Chaz Bono), the man touched Ivy inappropriately and Winter (Billie Lourd) chased him down. Although he got away in his truck, Winter and Ivy went to lunch and made a connection.
The two later find Gary after Winter remembered the name on his truck, which is a grocery store in town. The two then knocked him unconscious and handcuffed him in the basement so he would not be able to vote in the election. When Winter returns home she admits to Kai that she hurt someone and it felt “fantastic.”
