‘American Horror Story’ Season 3 Spoilers: Who Is The Next Supreme? Breakdown Of The Seven Wonders Test For The ‘Coven’ Finale
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD
Who is the next Supreme on “American Horror Story: Coven?" Fans of the FX mini-series will know soon enough because the season finale of “Coven” is set to air next Wednesday at 10 p.m. EST.
For those who missed episode 12, things took an interesting turn at Miss Robichaux’s Academy when Zoe and Misty Day returned to prove themselves as the next Supreme against their fellow witches Queenie and Madison. With the Coven at a serious point of crisis, all the ladies have begun to experience a spike in their powers – which has each of them believing that they’re the next chosen one.
The Supreme is supposed to help identify her next successor, but the major jaw-dropper of “Go To Hell” came when Cordelia discovered that the Axeman had killed Fiona in a fit of rage over her betrayal. Chopped up and dropped in the swamp to become alligator chow, Fiona will not be able to help with the next Supreme … which means all the young witches at Miss Robichaux’s must participate in the Seven Wonders test.
So, what are the Seven Wonders? The magical test is so advanced that it turns the “craft into art,” and can kill a witch in the process. The next Supreme must be able to demonstrate the following powers:
Telekinesis – The ability to move objects with your mind.
Concilium – The ability of mind control over an individual.
Transmutation – The ability to move your person to a different space.
Divination – The ability to see things, similar to Cordelia’s visions.
Vitalum Vitalis – The ability to “balance scales between one life force and another,” similar to the power of resurgence.
Descensum – The ability to descend into the afterlife and return.
Pyrokinesis – The ability to light objects on fire with your mind.
Now that the tests of the Seven Wonders have been identified … which witch is the next Supreme? We’re breaking down the list of who could be the potential leader of the Coven based on the magic they have already performed:
Queenie -- (4 powers demonstrated) – Initially starting off as a human voodoo doll (not even sure what category that falls into), Queenie has expanded her magic. In episode 12 alone she performed four of the Seven Wonders. Queenie used telekinesis to move the bricks on the wall to free Misty Day; vitalum vitalis to bring Misty Day back to life; divination to see that Madame LaLaurie cut up Marie Laveau; and descensum to go to her own personal hell and see Papa Legba.
Madison -- (4 powers demonstrated) – Madison was initially believed to be the next Supreme by Fiona ... which resulted in the Supreme cutting her throat. However since rising from the dead Madison has begun to display more powers. Since the beginning of the series she’s demonstrated four abilities: telekinesis in attacking Zoe and flipping the bus that Kyle was on; concilium to make a man walk in front of a car and make the gravediggers resume burying the coffin that Misty Day was stuck in; transmutation in trying to avoid Cordelia’s touch; and pyrokinesis to set Joan’s curtains on fire.
Zoe -- (3 powers demonstrated) – Like Madison, Zoe was told that she has the power to be the next Supreme. Besides her killer vagina, Zoe has performed three abilities over the course of the season: telekinesis to grab the knife to kill the Axeman; divination to summon the book she needed to expel the Axeman from the Academy; and vitalum vitalis to bring the homeless man back to life (although in my opinion it was her magic that brought Kyle back and helped bring Madison back).
Misty Day – (3 powers demonstrated + 2 potential powers) – Since she first stepped foot in the Academy, Misty Day had the elder witches drawn to her power of resurgence. Misty Day has used demonstrated four powers this season: telekinesis to grab a knife to attack the Axeman; concilium to freeze the grave diggers in the cemetery; and vitalum vitalis to bring multiple people back to life. While we’re not certain, Misty Day may also have the powers of descensum and pyrokinesis. She may have hinted at the power of descensum when revealed that she had a plan to rise from the dead if killed. At the beginning of the season she also managed to survive burning at the stake, which means she may also have the power of pyrokinesis.
