‘American Horror Story’ Season 4 Spoilers: Check Out Photos Of Pepper, Sister Mary Eunice From The ‘Freak Show’ Midseason Finale
“American Horror Story” will be airing the episode we’ve all been waiting for on Wednesday, Dec. 17. According to FX's midseason finale synopsis for “Freak Show,” episode 10 will bridge the mysterious gap between Season 4 and Season 2’s "Asylum."
The summary for episode 10, titled "Orphan," reveals that another character would meet their demise on Elsa Mar’s (Jessica Lange) camp, which will “spark troubling behavior in Pepper (Naomi Grossman)” – a character who has exhibited nothing but docile manners since the Season 4 premiere.
Grossman teased in October during a group interview which unlucky character would be killed off in "Freak Show."
"Salty (Christopher Neiman) isn't in in ‘Asylum’, so he's going to have to go sometime," she revealed while promoting the DVD and Blu-ray release of Season 3, “Coven.” "I think that Salty is going to present awesome possible opportunities for Pepper. If Salty is going to die, Pepper is going to have an opinion about it.”
It was theorized that Pepper’s erratic behavior could be the reason why Sister Mary Eunice (Lily Rabe), a main character from the sophomore season of the FX series, will make her reprisal in "AHS."
In “Asylum,” which chronically takes place after “Freak Show,” Sister Mary Eunice was a nun who worked at Briarcliff Asylum, an institution for the criminally insane, located in Boston. She took care of the patients (before being possessed by a demon spirit) – even caring for the most dangerous ones, like Pepper.
Sister Mary Eunice revealed that Pepper became a patient at Briarcliff after being charged with the heinous crime of drowning her sister’s baby and cutting off its ears. Pepper denied the murderous act later on in her Season 2 storyline.
“When my sister’s husband drowned her baby and sliced his ears off, he told everyone I did it. They tied me up and paraded me in front of the judge; he took one look at the shape of my head and I was locked up for good. That’s how it works for us freaks; we get blamed for everything,” Pepper explained.
In Season 4, Elsa revealed an interesting tidbit about Pepper’s sister. According to the Queen of the freaks, if she didn’t save Pepper and her Salty from the orphanage their sister left them in, the two would still be rotting there amongst the rats.
Could Salty’s death be the correlation between Season 2 and 4? Sound off with you theories in the comments section and check out the photos of Pepper in Briarcliff and Sister Mary Eunice’s “Freak Show” debut below:
