Worried that “American Horror Story” won’t be scary? Fret not, because actress Emma Roberts is promising that Season 4, “Freak Show,” will send shivers down your spine.
Roberts, 23, joined the cast of “American Horror Story” in Season 3, “Coven,” as Madison, a bad girl Hollywood starlet who also happened to be a witch. The actress will be returning for Season 4, but this time as a woman named Maggie. Emma Roberts spoke with E! News while at Target’s annual After-Hours Shopping Event, revealing that her character may not be a freak … at least on the surface.
“But that might not be true,” the starlet teased E!
What Emma Roberts could confirm about the upcoming fourth season is that it is hands down spooky.
“I have to say, ‘Freak Show’ is really scarier,” she promised. “I read the script and I was having nightmares.”
“American Horror Story: Freak Show” will take place in Jupiter, Florida in 1952. The new season will center around one of the last freak shows in the U.S., run by Jessica Lange’s German ex-pat character, Elsa Mars.
The synopsis for Season 4 teases that the freak show performers will move to the “quiet, sleepy hamlet” of Jupiter … however the little town won’t stay quiet for long. Their arrival coincides with “the strange emergence of a dark entity that savagely threatens the lives of townsfolk and freaks alike.” The season will follow the performers “and their desperate journey of survival amidst the dying world of the American Carny experience.”
Emma Roberts will star alongside boyfriend and “AHS” alum Evan Peters, who will be playing a strong man in the freak show. The cast also features Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Frances Conroy, Angela Bassett, Denis O’Hare, Gabourey Sidibe, John Caroll Lynch, Michael Chiklis, Wes Bentley, Patti LaBelle, and Jyoti Amge, the world’s smallest woman.
“Amercican Horror Story: Freak Show” will premiere on FX on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 10 p.m. EDT.
