“American Idol” reveals its Top 4 finalists for Season 15. Fox

“American Idol” is down to four contestants: La’Porsha Renae, Dalton Rapattoni, Trent Harmon and Mackenzie Bourg. On episode 20 of the Fox singing competition show, host Ryan Seacrest revealed the Top 4 finalists after sending one contestant home.

The first person to make it through to next week was La’Porsha, who’s become a frontrunner for the season. The first songs the “Idols” performed were classic American rock hits, and the single mother of one chose Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive.”

As previously reported, mentor Scott Borchetta said he was a little worried if La’Porsha could pull it off because he thought it was an odd song choice for her. However, all three judges loved it. Jennifer Lopez said the soulful songstress could sing the phonebook and it would still sound good. Keith Urban said he thought it was “really, really good” and Harry Connick Jr. said La’Porsha reminded him of Tina Turner.

Up next, was Mackenzie singing Cheap Trick’s “I Want You to Want Me.” Unfortunately for the lovable songwriter, the judges weren’t too happy with Mackenzie’s rendition of the rock song. Lopez told the aspiring singer she wasn’t sure she liked him putting his own flare on it, while Urban said he “hated” the arrangement. Connick Jr. also told Mackenzie it wasn’t his best performance.

Following Mackenzie was Trent Harmon who performed ZZ Top’s “Sharp Dressed Man.” Trent has also been a frontrunner in the competition and it seems Thursday was his night. Lopez said his performance of ZZ Top’s song was “perfect,” and Connick Jr. said he thought it was “so so smart.” Urban gushed over Trent’s performance telling him it was 10 out of 10.

After Trent took the stage, singers Sonika Vaid and Dalton Rapattoni were brought out as Seacrest announced that they were in the bottom two. Because there are no more judges’ save, the contestant with the lowest amount of votes automatically gets sent home. In the end, Sonika, who was in the bottom twice before, was eliminated and Dalton filled the remaining spot for the Top 4.

Still reeling from his close call with elimination, Dalton took the stage to sing Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows” and completely wowed the judges. All three loved it and complimented on him on how much emotion he put into the performance.

In round two the Top 4 finalists sang hit songs by Sia, who performed her new single “Cheap Thrills.” La’Porsha tackled “Elastic Heart” and again received rave reviews from the judges. Lopez even told the R&B singer she wasn’t even judging La’Porsha anymore but was simply watching her perform and do a great job.

When Mackenzie took the stage again, he treated fans to a performance of “Titanium.” Again, the judges didn’t seem to like it. Connick Jr. told Mackenzie he wasn’t a fan of it, and Urban agreed but added that he appreciated that Mackenzie “rode through it.” Rounding out Thursday’s performances were Dalton and Trent. Dalton sang “Bird Set Free,” while Trent played with his vocal abilities to the tune of “Chandelier.” Both contestants were hits with the judges.
