American Music Awards 2011: Celebrities Arrive at Nokia Theatre
The American Music Awards 2011 live from the Nokia Theatre premieres tonight on ABC starting at 7:00 p.m. EST and the line-up is star-studded.
Click here for a live stream of the AMAs to see the artists as they arrive. Taio Cruz is set to hit the stage for a pre-show performance at 6:30 p.m. EST.
ABC's red carpet correspondent for the night, Vanessa Lachey, tweeted a photo of her stunning diamond-stiletto pumps: Let's hope these babies make it thru the rain!!! Ahhhh Jimmy Choo! I Love Youuuu! she posted. The weather was cloudy and rainy in Los Angeles, but guests stayed dry under a tented red carpet.
Pandemonium ensued on the red carpet when Justin Bieber and girlfriend Selena Gomez arrived on the red carpet. Lachey called them Hollywood's cutest couple. Bieber was sporting a side-part to match his snazzy tuxedo.
Katy Perry looked ravishing in a strapless, pink sparkling gown with matching pink bouffant 'do. She posed cheekily for photographers before entering the venue.
Other stars who stopped to chat to ABC's reporters on the way in include Jenny McCarthy, Joe Jonas, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson and Sean Kingston. Nicki Minaj's biggest fan (dressed in a tutu, of course) posed for photos.
Jenny McCarthy, wearing a purple 1950s-esque dress with balloon skirt, discussed her role of host at this year's New Year's Rockin' Eve. The actress is very excited and ready to brave the cold come December 31.
Jennifer Hudson, in a silver mini dress, talked to ABC about how she is slowly getting used to dressing for her new physique. It's a new body so I'm still getting used to it, said Hudson, who lost 80 pounds on Weight Watchers.
For the 39th Annual AMAs, Adele is the darling of the night. The British singer is up for multiple awards including Artist of the Year and Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist. Adele's Rolling in the Deep is up against Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift, reports FOX News.
There is a solid set of highly-anticipated performances: Pitbull with Marc Anthony and Lil Jon; Maroon 5 singing Moves Like Jagger with Christina Aguilera; Enrique Iglesias with Ludacris; Jennifer Lopez with Will.i.am; and Nicki Minaj with David Guetta.
Katy Perry is slated to perform her newest hit The One That Got Away. Justin Bieber is scheduled to perform a song from his Christmas album Under the Mistletoe.
While in rehearsal, Bieber decided to break from form and serenade girlfriend Selena Gomez, according to Us Weekly.
The 17-year-old pop sensation, who was in the midst of a paternity scandal until the accuser dropped her case, was in great spirits when he came for a couple hours to rehearse for the AMAs. Gomez sat in the front row while her beau practiced.
At one point Justin even sang 'I Feel Good' a la James Brown! the source told Us Weekly. They were totally adorable. They were snuggling in between takes, and he was serenading her! They look as in love as ever.
Gomez is set to present an award.
Other hosts include Heidi Klum, Benjamin Bratt, Jennifer Hudson, Joe Jonas, and Alanis Morissette.
Other attendees (and potential performers) include Taylor Swift, Chris Brown, Katy Perry, Drake, Kelly Clarkson, and Gym Class Heroes.
The AMAs were created back in 1973 by produced Dick Clark. The intent was to honor the most popular musical talents on the U.S. music scene. For the past five years, winners have been chosen via an online popular vote. Twenty-one prizes will be handed out tonight.
Which performance are you looking forward to seeing tonight? Who has your vote?
