‘America’s Got Talent’ 12: Will Kechi Okwuchi, Chase Goehring Head To Semifinals?
“America’s Got Talent” Season 12 recently saw plane crash survivor Kechi Okwuchi performing an inspiring rendition of Katy Perry’s hit song, “By the Grace of God.”
Prior to her emotional performance in the NBC show, the Houston, Texas native first shared how supportive the families of her former classmates who didn’t survive the crash have been towards her. “I’ve always felt responsibility to the people that lost loved ones in that plane crash, and it pushes me to do all the things that I do. I want to make them proud. I want them to see that this life that was saved that day was not saved in vain,” she said.
Following her performance, Kechi received a standing ovation from the live audiences, as well as judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel.
Cowell reminded the talented contestant, “You are important. In these days and ages, people need people like you as an inspiration, and that’s what you’re doing.”
Meanwhile, DJ Khaled’s golden buzzer recipient Chase Goehring also received a standing ovation from the judges after he sung an original song called “Illusions.” The track was about someone letting go of the person he loves. Chase’s signature voice was a standout on Tuesday night, and Cowell dubbed him as a “little superstar.”
Since the song was about a girl who didn’t love Chase back, Mandel jokingly predicted that whoever that was is now filled with regrets. Mel B praised Chase for his creativity, as well as the beautiful lyrics of his original composition. However, Klum said that he preferred the singer’s two previous performances.
Other contestants who impressed the judges and the audiences included mind reader Colin Cloud, dog act duo Sara and Hero, singing choir DaNell Daymon & Greater Works and Klum’s golden buzzer recipient, Angelina Green. Unfortunately, out of the 12 that performed at the Dolby Theater stage, only seven will make it to the semifinals.
“America’s Got Talent” Season 12 airs Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on NBC.
