‘America’s Got Talent’ Season 12 Opera Singer Carlos De Antonis Opens Up About His Audition

“America’s Got Talent” may have just found its most adorable contestant in Season 12.

Opera singer Carlos De Antonis delivered a shocking performance during his audition, which was aired on Tuesday night. Even before he sang, judge Simon Cowell already had a very good feeling about De Antonis. The funny guy revealed that he drives cars for a living, and he gets asked by his passengers to sing for them. Heidi Klum asked if his passengers think his voice is good, and De Antonis proudly said yes.

The minute he started singing, De Antonis brought the entire house down with his huge and powerful voice. All four judges were shocked. Cowell, Klum, Howie Mandel and Mel B gave him a standing ovation, and the entire audience obviously loved him as well.

After his amazing performance, Cowell expressed how much he adores De Antonis. In an interview with NBC following his performance, De Antonis said that he couldn’t find the right words to describe what it felt like receiving that much love from the crowd. “You know what, I can’t even talk right now because too much emotion. I wanna fly,” he said with tears in his eyes.

De Antonis also did a remarkable thing after belting out his last note on Tuesday night. He gestured to the crowd as though he ripped his heart off and threw it at them. During his interview with the network, De Antonis explained why he did this move. “You know what I threw the heart to the judges and even to the audience because without them, we are no one. And they were so cute. Everyone was so shocking when I saw these people yelling for me. Amazing moment… unforgettable,” he said.

“America’s Got Talent” Season 12 will continue airing its audition episodes for the next couple of weeks. But come August, the four golden buzzer recipients will once again show their talents in the live shows. As of late, it is still unclear whether or not De Antonis will make it to this stage in the competition since he didn’t receive a golden buzzer from the judges.
