‘America’s Next Top Model’ Finalist Renee Alway Arrested After Six-Hour SWAT Team Standoff
Former “America’s Next Top Model” contestant Renee Alway couldn’t smile her way out of her most recent run-in with the law. The “ANTM” alumna, who competed in Cycle 8 of Tyra Banks’ televised modeling competition, was arrested and sent to jail after a six-hour standoff with Palm Springs police June 28, KTLA reported.
On that day, the Palm Springs police received a call about a so-called suspicious female walking around a condo that neighbors said was vacant. The police were advised the condo residents were out of the country, according to Sgt. Harvey Reed. When officers arrived on the scene, they first found the back door of the home open and then discovered Alway, 27, hiding in the garage with a gun.
The officers believed another armed suspect was in the home as well, leading them to call the SWAT team for assistance, KTLA reported. SWAT team members searched the home for several hours, but ultimately found nobody else inside.
After the standoff, Alway was arrested and taken to jail. She remains at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility with her bail set at $150,000, KTLA said. Her court date is scheduled for next week.
Alway was also arrested June 2, according to TMZ. She was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, petty theft and fraud. She was released on bail after pleading not guilty to those charges.
