Amy Schumer has been suffering from Lyme disease for years and she shared it on social media while asking for advice on how to get rid of it.
On Tuesday, Schumer took to Instagram and shared a throwback photo of her. In the caption, she mentions that she has Lyme disease and so she’s asking fans for comments or recommendations on how to deal with the condition better.
"My first ever fishing pole. Anyone get LYME this summer? I got it and I’m on doxycycline. I have maybe had it for years. Any advice?" Schumer wrote in the caption.
"Can you have a glass of wine or 2 on it? I know to stay out of the sun. I’m also taking these herbs from cape cod called lyme-2. Please comment or text me on my number in my bio. I also want to say that I feel good and am excited to get rid of it."
Several commented on Schumer's post, with some giving tips on how to make her medication more effective. One suggested that she should avoid iron and multivitamins within two hours of taking doxycycline and to skip alcohol because it makes the medicine less effective.
Others mentioned the bee venom therapy because it works, according to some reports. Some also provided her the contact details of some people that Schumer should contact for help.
Meanwhile, another suggested that Schumer should talk to her doctor instead of asking for advice from random people.
"Maybe ask your doctor? I would resist taking medical advice from randoms on Instagram," one Instagram user commented.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and rarely by Borrelia mayonii. It is the most common vector-borne disease in the United States and is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks.
Usual symptoms include fever, headaches, fatigue and skin rash called erythema migrans. One has to address the condition because if left untreated, the infection can spread to the joints, heart and the nervous system.
Yolanda Hadid also suffers from the same condition. In 2016, she shared a snap of her after undergoing a surgery to treat the illness.
"I am seeking, I am striving and I am in it to win it with all of my heart............ #LymeDiseaseAwareness #TvamSurgery #LastChapter #SearchingForACure #RemissionInSight," she wrote on Instagram at the time.
In 2019, Yolanda announced that she suffered a relapse in her ongoing battle with Lyme disease. Gigi Hadid told Elle that it was difficult to see her mom and two siblings Anwar and Bella Hadid struggle with the disease over the years.
Gigi said it made her independent because there were days when she had to do things on her own. However, at the same time, she felt a lot of guilt for "being the one person in the family who didn't understand what they were going through."
