Amy Schumer Reveals She Wasn't Allowed To Joke About Alec Baldwin At Oscars
Amy Schumer has revealed that she was never going to joke about Alec Baldwin at the Oscars. She echoed the same sentiment during a stand-up routine in Las Vegas earlier this month, saying there were jokes she was not allowed to tell during the award show, including the fatal shooting incident involving Baldwin on the set of "Rust."
The 40-year-old comedian made the revelation in the same Instagram post in which she denied a Daily Mail report claiming she and her husband Chris Fischer had purchased a $12.5-million ocean-view mansion in Montecito.
"This is not true," she wrote, before adding, "I also was never going to say the Alec Baldwin joke at the Oscars. But I am saying anything I want at my live shows. Hope you come out. Link in bio for tickets to my shows. I’m touring August through the holidays!"
The Hollywood Reporter earlier disclosed that during her stand-up comedy show at the Mirage Theatre in Las Vegas, Schumer told her audience that she had been advised by her lawyer not to joke about certain things at the Oscars, including the "Rust" shooting incident that left cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead.
Schumer reportedly recited her original Oscars monologue to her audience at the time, saying, "'Don't Look Up' is the name of a movie, more like don't look down the barrel of Alec Baldwin's shotgun." She added that she had been advised not to joke about the incident.
"My lawyer said not to say these," she said. "I wasn't allowed to say any of that at the Oscars, but you can just come up and clock someone."
The "Rust" shooting incident took place on Oct. 21, 2021, at the Bonanza Creek Ranch in New Mexico, when a live round of bullets was discharged from a revolver used by Baldwin as a prop. It is currently being investigated and has ignited a debate on occupational safety in the film industry.
