  • The budget for the spinoff is between $50 million and $80 million, a report claims
  • “Ballerina” will focus on a young female assassin who wants to exact revenge on the people who killed her family
  • There is no word yet if Keanu Reeves is making a cameo in the film

Ana de Armas could snag a big title role soon should discussions about the highly anticipated “John Wick” spinoff move in her favor.

The 33-year-old Cuban actress is currently in the process of securing the lead role in the Lionsgate spinoff project “Ballerina,” The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Thursday.

The action franchise could be the biggest break de Armas will have in her acting career in Hollywood following her breakout role in “Knives Out” and her latest project, “No Time To Die,” which is still in theaters.

The spinoff to Keanu Reeves’ successful neo-noir action thriller is going to center on a young female assassin who honed her skills due to her desire to exact revenge on the people who killed her family.

In “John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum,” the character made her debut as a ballerina who was undergoing training to be an assassin, as pointed out by Deadline.

The movie is going to be another team-up between Lionsgate and producers Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Chad Stahelski, the latter of whom directed the “John Wick” franchise.

“Ballerina” is going to be helmed by “Underworld” director Len Wiseman, while Shay Hatten is penning the script. Hatten is known for “Parabellum” and Zack Snyder’s “Army of The Dead.”

Sources told Deadline that the budget for “Ballerina” is somewhere between $50 million and $80 million, and it is going to be overseen by Brady Fujikawa and Chelsea Kujawa.

It’s not yet clear if Reeves is going to make an appearance in the movie. His next outing in the “John Wick” saga is in the fourth film that is due out in May 2022.

While negotiations are still ongoing, de Armas still has a lot of projects on the way. She is going to be seen in the erotic thriller “Deep Water” with ex-boyfriend Ben Affleck, and she’s also starring in the Russo brothers’ “The Gray Man” alongside Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling.

Next year, de Armas is also expected to make big waves on Netflix since Andrew Dominik’s “Blonde” is debuting on the streamer. She leads the biopic that tells the life of the late Marilyn Monroe.
