Anderson Cooper Not Taking Paternity Leave, Co-Parenting With Ex Benjamin Maisani

Anderson Cooper is not taking a paternity leave, and he is co-parenting his son with his ex-boyfriend Benjamin Maisani.

The CNN anchor announced in April that he was welcoming a baby boy. However, Cooper is not taking a paternity leave to focus on his newborn son.

Cooper appeared on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” and explained his decision to continue working.

“This is not some story, this is life and death,” Anderson explained about the coronavirus outbreak.

“This is as serious as it gets. It's more important than ever before that things be true and accurate. That's one of the reasons why I'm not taking time off.”

Cooper was glad that he could do some work at home. For him, it is an extraordinary time to be in the business and help inform people by giving facts.

“Right now, facts and science, to give people the truth, is the difference between life and death,” the new dad added.

Cooper also confirmed that he is co-parenting with Maisani, his former partner.

“My former partner Benjamin, who's going to be a co-parent to Wyatt, even though we're not together anymore, but you know, he's my family and I want him to be Wyatt's family, as well,” Cooper said of his ex.

In 2018, Cooper and Maisani announced their split. Cooper issued a statement at the time saying that they were still family and they loved each other very much. In fact, they remained the best of friends as they were still keen on sharing most of their lives together.

“We will continue to share much of our lives together,” he said.

Interestingly, an insider recently revealed to Us Weekly that the two actually got back together. The source claimed that they reconciled before Cooper made the baby announcement.

“Anderson has reconciled with Ben,” the source said.

“They very quietly got back together and are planning ahead. Ben is selling one of his clubs and cutting back on how much he does at night so he can spend more time at home with Anderson and the baby.”

But what the source said might not be true at all, considering that Cooper still referred to Maisani as his ex in his recent interview.
