  • Andre Drummond could be the difference-maker for the Lakers' back-to-back NBA title quest
  • Drummond may need to adjust once LeBron James and Anthony Davis are back in harness
  • Drummond needs to play better defense and focus on rebounding to aid the Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers need all the help they can get to make it back-to-back NBA title wins.

Andre Drummond is the latest big-name acquisition of the franchise, and sports analyst Shannon Sharpe believes that it may all hinge on that.

As most know, the Lakers are now struggling with injuries to key players like LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

With a big void in the middle, Drummond comes in at the right time. But the next question here is, will his credible performance continue once the regular stars are back in harness?

In the eyes of former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe, Drummond gives the Lakers size and strength, and will be the difference-maker in the bid to recapture the Larry O'Brien trophy this year.

The athlete-turned-pundit made the call when he was asked who between Drummond and Rajon Rondo was the better acquisition of the two Los Angeles-based squads on "The Undisputed."

“Both guys are what the doctor ordered. But I’ll say Drummond because he gives the Lakers size and strength and he can own the boards. He’s the difference in the Lakers winning or losing the title,” Sharpe stated.

While questions are in the air on how well Drummond can fit into the system of head coach Frank Vogel, his ability to operate inside the paint could be a blessing.

Los Angeles has a lot of options in scoring, and the 6-foot-10 center does not necessarily have to score heavily.

However, what the Lakers need from Drummond is added rebounding and rim protection. These are two parts of his game that are being debated although adjustments by Vogel could help him be more relevant.

For now, the Lakers will need Drummond to step up on both ends with James and Davis still out due to injuries.

The good news is that both appear to be returning soon with Davis possibly back in the coming week.

Meanwhile, James is also reportedly set to return after that, giving Lakers fans something to cheer about.

For now, Drummond, Dennis Schroder and Montrezl Harrell are holding up the fort as the Lakers try to win as many games as possible.

Once LeBron James and Anthony Davis are back, it will be interesting how Drummond will adjust, knowing that the big guns will go out firing alongside him.

“I know what the main focus is, which is to win a championship. So sacrifices will be made, and that’s something I’m comfortable with,” Drummond stated.
