Although it’s taken a while for most Android devices to update to Jelly Bean, Google seems to have no problem rolling out more candy-themed upgrades. In November we saw the launch of the second generation of Jelly Bean, Android 4.2, and now a version of Android 4.2.2 has reportedly been found on a Nexus 4 handset.

According to Androidnews blog Android Community, Google could be rolling out Android 4.2.2 in select countries very soon. Reports have indicated that this Jelly Bean update has launched in Brazil and Malaysia, but no other nations have been mentioned just yet.

It’s also important to keep in mind that Google has not published any official information concerning Android 4.2.2, so we can’t be sure exactly what the update will entail. The folks over at Android Community suspect that it could be a minor update including some bug fixes, and the purported update has only been seen on Nexus 4 handsets thus far.

The first of these reports, which surfaced online Friday, said a batch of 1,000 Nexus 4 units had emerged from a Brazilian factory running on Android 4.2.2. These devices are believed to be heading over to Brazilian mobile carriers as early as this month.

In addition, Malaysian Android users have also spotted Android 4.2.2 on their mobile devices. Reports have surfaced on Malaysian website lowyat.net, but these posts have since been removed. Android Community managed to snag a screenshot of the device’s “About phone” menu with 4.2.2 listed under the “Android version” category.

While Google has done little to make any official announcements concerning Android 4.2.2, news of the upgrade seems to be spreading fast. On Monday a Czech language video from SmartMania.cz showcased LG’s Nexus 4 with what could be the most recent iteration of Android. The footage, which amounts to seven minutes in length, does not mention Android 4.2.2 until the very end. The video did not reveal any specific information, but it did further the notion that Google could be preparing to launch the Android 4.2.2 upgrade in various global markets.

Further details from the video indicate that the device is an 8GB Nexus 4 review unit, which could mean that the smartphone came from elsewhere. The LG-crafted handset shown in the video features Android 4.2.2 with a build number containing the term “dev-keys” at the end. This could mean that Google is testing a new Android build, but until we hear word from the search engine giant we can’t be sure.

Google introduced Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at its I/O developers conference back in June, and the operating system has made a slow but steady debut since. The company unleashed Android 4.2 along with its Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 launch in November, and the latest software update debuted on these devices along with the Nexus 7 tablet. According to the latest statistics from Google, Jelly Bean usage across Android devices has risen to 10.2 percent.
