Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Update Arrives: Verizon Galaxy Note 2 Receives New OS; Upgrade Assistant And OTA Software Available
One of the most anticipated Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates is now live as the operating system is available for the Verizon Galaxy Note 2.
Verizon made the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 update available late last week through its Upgrade Assistant computer software, which is available for Windows and Mac users, who can access Upgrade Assistant here. Members of the XDA Developers forum have reported that the software works well for installing Android 4.3 on the Verizon Galaxy Note 2. The update is now available over-the-air for those who prefer not to go through the heavy lifting of a manual install. It appears the simplest and most seamless install comes from OTA.
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 models for all other major U.S. carriers have updated to Android 4.3 already. Days earlier, the Verizon Galaxy S3 also updated to Android 4.3, well after other models. Verizon is usually the last among the major carriers to give its devices support; we suspect this is to observe what problems occur for other carriers so that it can avoid the same issues in its updates. The Android 4.3 update has proved troublesome for several Samsung Galaxy models, even after optimized and patch updates were released. Android 4.3 updates that were released later appear to have fewer issues than updates that released earlier. Notably, the Verizon Galaxy S4 was among the first Galaxy models to update and as such was among the models most negatively affected by Android 4.3 post-update issues.
Users should keep in mind that all models may still be affected by various Android 4.3 bugs, even after optimization by Samsung. Those concerned about possible post-update issues may want to hold off on updating their Verizon Galaxy Note 2 handset until more information becomes available.
As said, the VRUEMJ9 build firmware for the Verizon Galaxy Note 2 is currently available through Verizon’s Upgrade Assistant and over-the-air. Users can expect the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update to include Galaxy Gear support and the Samsung KNOX security system. The Verizon Galaxy Note 2 will also receive such improvement and changes as Multi Window and Pen Up upgraded to Note 3 version; Sound & Shot support in the Camera app; the ability to move apps from internal memory to SD card; increased support for Bluetooth Smart Accessories; and roaming support for the TELUS Network in Canada.
