Android 7.0 Nougat Samsung Galaxy S7 Download: Verizon To Update In 2017 After Beta Cancellation

Verizon is no longer participating in Samsung’s Android 7.0 Nougat beta program for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge; however, the carrier did hint the official rollout would hit its handsets in early 2017 instead.

In a note to beta participants, Verizon indicated that those running the test software would be reverted back to the previous Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow software until the new software was publicly available. “Verizon will stay on the original software for the remainder of this trial. Beta trial users will be upgraded to the commercial N release when it is available early next year,” the carrier said in a statement.

There is no indication about why Verizon has decided to opt out of the Android 7.0 Nougat beta program; however, SamMobile noted the carrier is known for removing or not offering features or opportunities available through Samsung or other carriers. At least users won’t have to wait much longer for the update.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are expected to officially update to Android 7.0 Nougat before the end of the year, starting with unlocked models. Most carrier models, including Verizon, will likely roll out the software in 2017.

Samsung recently shared its third beta update for Android 7.0 Nougat, which features a name change for the TouchWiz user interface. It is now called Samsung Experience. The update also features a the introduction of a new program called Samsung Pass, which helps users enable biometric features for automatic authentication, among other tweaks.

Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge handsets that still qualify for Samsung’s Android 7.0 Nougat beta program should receive the update wirelessly. Those who wish to participate must be registered for the program and download the beta program application.
