Android 7.0 Nougat Update: Latest Downloads For Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus And Sony Xperia X Performance
Some manufacturers are catching up on Android 7.0 Nougat updates that never hit devices in certain regions. Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus owners in India and Sony Xperia X Performance owners in Canada can now expect the new Google software to hit their devices, after global roll outs hit weeks prior.
The Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus were the first non-Google branded smartphones to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update in October. Updates began in Brazil and quickly rolled out to other markets. However, Indian users have missed out until now. The handsets are receiving the NPJ25.93-11 build of Nougat as well as Google’s Nov. 1 security update over the air. Users can also check for the update manually by accessing Settings > About phone > Software updates.
Meanwhile, Canadian carrier Rogers has detailed the Sony Xperia X Performance will update to Android 7.1.1 Nougat in February 2017. This means the smartphone will skip the initial Android 7.0 version, going straight from Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Sony began updating Xperia X Performance handsets in markets including Australia, Russia, and Latin America in November. However, carriers often hold out on getting more recent versions of software, which contain more bug fixes and additional features.
Sony also announced recently it plans to be the first non-Google branded manufacturer to release Android 7.1.1 to its devices. However, there is no word on whether models like the Rogers Xperia X Performance will be among those first devices to update. Often times unlocked models of Android smartphones get the latest software before carrier models.
